The problem is that the "extra" money that it produced at first... was spent on random government. The money was supposed to be invested and saved, so when the baby boomers were eligible to draw, there would be money to give them. What's going to HAVE to happen eventually is both sides are going to have to give in (working and the SS drawers). The workers will have to pay a higher percentage and the SS drawers will have to take cuts or up the age in their benefits. I think that a candidate will have to run on this eventually as SS is going to be bankrupt within 20 years.
