In fact, many of the zeros were not shot down. Surely you know that.

Why would you assume that they would send just 1 aircraft?

If they sent a ton of Zeros and then a single extremely large, never-seen-before bomber, you don't think the Allies will concentrate their fire on the new unknown threat?

And no, by 1945, single Zeros did not get through allied defenses. It tools swarms of them them to overwhelm the fighter CAP and the anti-aircraft fire in order for a small minority to get through.

Single aircraft versus radar directed guns firing proximity fused shells does not work out well for the aircraft.

We DID use them. Twice. And McArthur (very publicly) wanted to use them again on N. Korea. By then, everybody had to have nukes. LOL

Yes....three days. How many days warning did they give us before Pearl Harbor?

    IF
they kept up the war then using whatever we had would be required and justified. Considering the brutalities and insanities of WWll up to that point would you prefer we had just fire bombed or sent in more American sons to die?

"Before the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there was the burning of Tokyo. Operation Meetinghouse, the early March 1945 raid on Tokyo that involved over 330 B-29s dropping incendiary bombs from low-altitude at night, killed roughly 100,000 people, and may have injured and made homeless an order of magnitude more. As with all statistics on the damage caused by strategic bombing during World War II, there are debatable points and methodologies, but most people accept that the bombing of Tokyo probably had at least as many deaths as the Hiroshima bombing raid, and probably more. It is sometimes listed as the most single deadly air raid of all time as a consequence."

While I understand and agree that using atomics was a very bad thing (Duh)...the alternatives would be far worse...do you even consider this?

The alternative was to demonstrate the bomb in a uninhabited area and wait a few weeks.

    Does Bimini ring a bell?

Should we have invited them for the show? Would they have taken a break from slaughter to see it?
Maybe we should have asked them nicely to play nice and quit jumping off cliffs when they lose?

Are you referring to Bikini Atoll? That was 1946. So we killed 225,000 people as part of the demonstration and you believe that was necessary?

So while everyone has been trying to define the word "IS". We come down to a final fact... The president who made the final decision to drop two nuclear weapons on the Japanese in WWII was a Democrat and a member of the KKK. He wasn't a Republican. There's no doubt that the use of nukes cut short the war and saved millions of lives. Trying to justify or blame America using of the atomic bomb to end the war after 71 years is an exercise in futility. The deed was done. Why flagellate ourselves over decisions of the past we have no control over today? If Japan or Germany had the bomb before we did they would have definitely used it on America.

That he was a democrat lends nothing to this discussion
