    Historical chronicles. A memorable date.

On December 10, 1941, Guam was taken by the Japanese (370 people) in less than 4 hours (1 killed, 6 wounded), the Americans (550 Marines) lost 20 killed and 40 wounded, the rest surrendered.
At 02:15 on December 10, 370 men of the 5th Marine Company of the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked and quickly captured Hagatna. Then they occupied Piti and Sumei. At 06:00, Governor George Mcmillan officially surrendered the island to the Japanese.
The island was recaptured only in the summer of 1944 (the operation lasted 20 days) - the Americans landed about 60,000 (2 divisions, 1 brigade) killed almost all of the 20,000 Japanese defenders (1 division with a tank regiment, 1 brigade, separate battalions) - about 1,000 were captured - most were wounded. American losses - 3,000 killed, more than 7,000 wounded.

I wonder if Hollywood will make a film about these events?

It is surprising that the Japanese were able to take the Island with a smaller force than the occupying US Marine force. Guam later became the key island for the bombing of Japan. B-29s with the atomic bombs were launched from Guam. I have been to Anderson AFB at Guam a number of times during my years in the Air Force.

    Why surprising? Rather, it's expected.
Are you familiar with Operation Cottage? When the Americans killed 300 of their own soldiers taking over an empty island?
Many military historians call this operation a nine-day "battle with a shadow" - the Americans and Canadians in 1943, when storming the island of Kyska, part of the Aleutian Ridge, lost over 300 servicemen... without meeting any resistance from the enemy at all.

Sometimes it is better to tell the whole story. Operation Cottage. Allied deaths were from Japanese landmines and booby traps, friendly fire incidents, and vehicle accidents.

I suspect you can find it. The national guard unit from my home town deployed to the Aleutians during WWII. So I was somewhat familiar with it.

The Japanese left the island under cover of darkness so that the allies would not know they had left. They made it appear like they were still there. They set up booby traps so that in patterns that would result in the allies firing on their own people. It was well thought out and it worked.

It is not customary in a cultural society to ask about a person's income. But apparently you and culture are incompatible concepts. Work on yourself. Read classical literature, it is useful for expanding cultural horizons. I especially recommend Russian classics - Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Bulgakov... etc.

I'm reminded of Russia losing an entire war to the Japanese Empire. The US in turn would liberate much of Japan conquered in that conflict.

He didn't ask about your income, but your occupation. You have developed a well-earned reputation on this forum of being a shill for Russia. Whether that is for money or you are a true believer in Communism ruling the world is a fair question, though I think many of us have already reached our own conclusions about it.

    Ahahaha.... :roflol::roflol::roflol:

There are many documentary evidences about how one Russian tank or a platoon of Soviet soldiers held entire battalions and regiments of the enemy for several days. But about how the United States fought in reality, Western propaganda is shamefully silent. Let's tell just a few episodes.
    1. Normandy Landing. On June 6, 1944, during the Normandy landings, the Americans and British threw their infantry into the fortified German defense line. Bare beach, perfectly shot from the hills dominating the shore, on which were located fortified artillery and machine gun fire points. History has brought to our attention one of the episodes of this landing known as "The Beast from Omaha Beach." One of the German machine gunners, Heinrich Severlo, sitting in Strongpoint 62 with an MG42 machine gun and two carbines, fired 12,000 rounds of machine gun ammunition and about 400 more from the carbines in a few hours. During that time he killed and wounded, according to various estimates, between 2,500 and 3,000 American soldiers. One machine gunner. Out of hundreds of them. You can imagine what the total Allied casualties were that day. This is exactly the case when you can confidently and literally say "corpses piled up". At the same time, official American authorities recognized only 4,414 killed during Operation Overlord across the entire front.

By the way, Heinrich Severlo survived, although he was eventually wounded during the retreat and captured. The Americans did not recognize him as the machine gunner from Strongpoint 62. His photo.

2 The Battle of Hürtgen Forest is considered "the longest battle in which the American Army has ever been engaged". Field Marshal General Walter Model held back superior Allied forces for several months, relying only on the hopelessly outdated by then "Siegfried Line", not adapted to the use of modern artillery guns on it. In the course of the battle, the Americans lost 33,000 killed and wounded (over two divisions), failed to achieve their objectives, and the battle itself was called a "defeat of the first magnitude".
3- The German offensive in the Ardennes. The German grouping of about 240,000 men successfully attacked for eight days the American army, consisting of 840,000 men (yes, three and a half times as many!). At the same time, General Eisenhower wrote in his memoirs that he knew of the impending German offensive and "prepared". Despite this, the Germans for a week advanced on a front about 100 kilometers wide by 80-100 kilometers, destroying about 800 tanks and 90 thousand American soldiers (another 30 thousand were taken prisoner). The situation was critical for the Allied forces, and the American government had to appeal to Stalin with a request to launch an offensive faster than planned. Hastily launched successful Soviet offensive forced the Germans to significantly weaken their Ardennes grouping, transferring to the eastern front 6th Tank Army Dietrich and 16 more divisions. And then, with almost nothing left of the German grouping, the Allies launched a "successful counteroffensive".
4- Defense of Bastogne. The "heroic" defense of the town of Bastogne by the U.S. 101st Airborne Division (who were called "beaten Bastogne bastards" by the newspapers after the battle) should be noted separately. American paratroopers defended Bastogne from the German Tank Training Division. It was called the Training Division for a reason, because it was made up of tank school cadets who had not completed their training. And, as far as I know, by the time of the battle of Bastogne this division had half of its personnel and less than a third of its tanks. And how many movies were made about this "heroic" defense!
    5. I don't even want to write about Operation Cottage, when the Americans lost 300 men while capturing an empty island.

All those praised American generals - Eisenhower, Montgomery, Bradley - are rare mediocrities whose successes are highly questionable, despite the fact that they fought against the weakest and most unprepared units of the Wehrmacht, significantly inferior to them in numbers (and with total air superiority). And it was the American generals who really pelted the front with corpses.
Exactly the same mediocrities as the current Secretary of Defense Austin.

Now imagine a hypothetical situation: The US and the Third Reich on one continent, and the USSR on the other. In how many weeks would swastika flags be flying over both California and Washington, D.C.?

Are your questions relevant to the topic? Or do you want to say that it is the Russians who are to blame for the incompetent command in the US army? As always - are the Russians to blame for everything? :roflol::roflol::roflol:

No. You reported it because it hurt your feelings so the mods deleted it. I wish I could say I’m surprised but i would never put it past Russia to silence dissent. I guess I should consider myself lucky I’m not wherever Navalny is right now.

Fortunately, you quoted it before it was deleted. As you can see, I did not ask about your income.

If you deleted a comment, then don't make excuses. It doesn't matter. The screenshot you provided shows your inappropriate interest in this topic - how do I make a living?
I could rightfully say that it's none of your business, but being a cultured person, I just pointed out your lack of culture.
Accept this fact and work on yourself. And please write the following comment on the topic.

Oh ooh!... I am pleasantly surprised by the moderators' actions. I can only praise them.
And from this it follows that the moderators noticed all the senselessness and lack of culture of your post.
I can only advise you to raise your level of culture and once again ask you to write on the topic.

Too much to read. Russia lost a war to tiny little Japan. The US kicked Japan's ass in a war, and that's the only reason Sakhalin Island is now Russian.

It seems like the only way Russia knows how to win a war is by burning its own cities and retreating. The war in Ukraine is further evidence of Russian military incompetence.

Ahahaha... Learn history. It was the Russians who defeated the Kwantung Army. The US could only drop atomic bombs on peaceful Japanese cities. :roflol::roflol::roflol:

That was at the end of the war after the US had destroyed the Japanese military. Sakhalin Island was part of the Japanese Empire for decades. Japan's hold over Guan lasted less than three years. The Soviets were afraid to join the war against Japan until August of 1945 because they'd lost so badly 40 years earlier.
