Hello, A simple poll about democracy to know your opinions about it. I voted for the third option "democracy is flawed but with no better alternative".
If it is working for me, I'm up for it. If it isn't I am not. I like the ideal of it. I would prefer to have it than not. But I am not married to it. Currently I don't think I have it in my country. I am in the process of trying to get it. How will this be achieved? I'm not sure it will be achieved peacefully. I don't think it is peacefully possible to hold politicians and their governments to account for their electoral manifesto's. I hope it will be, I want it to be, but I don't believe it is.
Democracy is an autocratic disease that promotes individualism and a degradation of the state to further "liberal values" and usually (especially in the US) leads to a two party tyranny. An Dictatorial government with some level of constitution is inherently better. Many more points I'd like to discuss but will keep it related only to this
I don't believe that there are any systems out there which are superior to democracy. But there are certainly a myriad of ways that democratic systems can be improved. It is a good idea to have a constitution be a part of your democratic system. Beyond that, probably the number one most effective way to improve democratic systems... is to stop using Plurality election methods and to start using more Ranked systems instead; ideally, a Condorcet method like Ranked Pairs, or a close approximation such as Instant Runoff. The reason for the two-party stranglehold in the U.S. isn't because of democracy. Its because for some reason we persist in using the antiquated Plurality method for our elections. Which of course leads to things like spoilers, tactical voting, lack of viable third parties, and all sorts of nonsense. I think the question misses the real problem. There is can be no political system human beings aren't capable of corrupting.
I tend to think it actually depend of the situation of the country. Some democracy can't work in countries where elections can open the wounds of ethnic tensions. It's the less worse however we can go toward. I have some sympathies for monarchy however. You're right.
The major problem with monarchies is the chaos generated when there is regime change. With democracy we do that peacefully.
I think they're not adapted anymore to our times. I trust more someone which want to give the kingdom to his children in good conditions than a compulsive liar of a professionnal politician. However, I doubt that monarchy is adapted to todays way.
I don't think that monarchy is adapted anymore to today. I think that people will be happy when philosophers will be king and king will be philosophers. We're our own king. The best way to govern is to be governed by the wisest. But there is no way to know who is the wisest ? This kind of government is impossible so.
Voted for the 1st choice, reasoning that Democracy in its truest form/essence is the best model for mankind to ensure the rights of every man and woman on this beautiful blue & green planet. Anything less is simple modification slanted towards a desired outcome.
None of the choices fit my views. I'm against pure democracy. I think that a representative multi-leveled republic, with a constitution that guarantees rights and limits government, is the best form of government.
