Pastor Jack Hibbs to Newsmax: 'America Is Nation of Prayer'

Pastor Jack Hibbs says that prayer in America dates back to colonial days, when the Founding Fathers knew they could never mitigate a man or woman's heart "to pray, to be religious."

And that spirit of religious freedom was cemented in 1791, as part of the First Amendment.
With more than 230 years of American history on his side, Hibbs was overjoyed, but hardly surprised by last week's Supreme Court's ruling in favor of Joseph Kennedy, a former high school football coach in Washington state who sued upon being suspended from his job — after refusing to stop leading on-field prayers with players after games.

"We can invite people to join us [at the 50-yard line]. We can invite and exercise our First Amendment," Hibbs said on Newsmax Sunday morning, while appearing on "Wake Up America" with hosts Carl Higbie and Amanda Brilhante.

The pastor is right about what he said to the Newsmax reporters. America is a nation of prayer. Our first amendment free speech, free association, and free exercise clauses have re affirmed. The secularists can not drive religion or the expression of its ideals out of the public square.

 

A great win for religious liberty. We have freedom of religion in America to follow and observe any we want or none at all. There is not and never will be freedom from religion.

 

If America is a nation of God (capital G) and a nation at prayer, wouldn't that implicitly exclude all the religions that don't have prayer and don't worship God (or even any other god or gods)? Can you really have true religious freedom if you are associating the fundamental existence of the nation with a specific religion?

It depends on the religion or belief system that is fundamental to that nations existence.

With Christianity which holds the pinnacle of free will--accepting Jesus as your savior willingly, joyously and from the heart---yes. Freedom of religion and freedom of speech and freedom to follow your conscience are values treasured in Christianity. God and the angels rejoice in heaven when someone chooses willingly to follow Jesus.

With Islam and Atheism I think freedom of religion is not so easy.

Right. Christian hypocrisy is often on display when it comes to other religions.

 

I question whether religion is fundamental to any nations existence, and certainly not the (nominally) same religion. For example, the nation of England pre-dates the Church of England by several hundred years.

In theory maybe but demonstrably not in practice and I very much doubt that is the intent of the people pushing for America to be a specifically Christian country, even if they talk-the-talk of religious freedom.

Well Islam is a religion and I'm arguing against any religion as the driving basis of any nation.

Atheism is just a label for an individual belief, the direct opposite of theism. Atheist can be religious and theists can be non-religious so atheism in itself has zero relevance to this discussion (like most other discussions it gets dragged in to).

 

I'm sure Pastor Higgs supports having a giant stone copy of the Koran in the middle of the Washington Plaza - as do you.

 

Things like this give me hope, as the vocal extremist die out they will of course try and force their failed ideology — but they will lose in time

I'm sure prayer in America dates back long before colonial days. Ancient inhabitants of America surely had deities they prayed to long before the white man brought his religion.

 

I agree. All citizens should be required to pray. And not those dirty Mooslim prayers. Only Christian prayers will suffice.

I wasn't talking about the references to individual freedoms though, I was talking the references to the fundamental nature of the nation. I'm suggesting that you can't have a fundamentally religious nation and have true religious freedom at the same time.

If prayer was effective and god was real, there'd be no more mass shootings in America.
But that isn't the case, no matter how many times you all pray for the families of the dead people.

 

There is no neutrality. People are either with God or against Him. That is the choice. No third option. Eternal life or no life at all.

 

Until the 2nd coming sin will happen. Bad people will do bad things to good people. Disease, war, disaster will all happen right up to the end. We are all going to die right up until the end. Secularists openly side with Satan against God by blaming God for acts caused by the devil.

American Christians of the north went to war with American Christians of the south over religion, because their beliefs over the bible differed

the fanatical side in that war was the Christians that felt the bible gave them the right to own slaves and they would not give up that god given right without a fight


each person has their own path they must take, we will all eventually get there, it will just take some longer then others
