They have stunk all year but have finally crossed the .500 record. I predict a wildcard entry and a possible World Series win in 2012. Place your bets in Vegas. The odds should be pretty good right now.
I wrote this on 7/18/12: http://www.politicalforum.com/off-topic-chat/251148-lets-talk-sports-thread-25.html#post1061467584 The Philadelphia Phillies are 15 games(loss column) behind the Nats & 11 games behind in the wild card, with 70 games left in their season. Can they come back? A large mountain to climb, but I'm not counting them out. If I were a gambler, haven't been for 25 or so years now, I would take a shot on the Phillies winning it all. I would have taken that shot 6 weeks ago.
Baseball is the greatest sport ever invented; the issue today is the game needs to be speeded up. In the 60's a game took 2 hours, now-a-days, it's 3 hours. Even as a serious fan of the game and former participant, the game can be boring at times what with changing multiple pitchers and other delays. Football is of course the King of all Sports in the U.S. in terms of fans... but for many many years it was baseball. Baseball was the national past-time. More on point, I predict the Cardinals will get the wild-card spot in the N.L.
that would make for a good discussion because baseball is absolutely boring. Why can I get up, let out the dogs, make a pot of coffee and come back in between each pitch? I think there should be a 5-8 second rule where as soon as the ball is back to the pitcher that he must pitch or it's a ball. If the batter steps out of the box it's a strike in soccer (football) the keeper has 6 seconds to distribute the ball once he's picked it up. It's about keeping the game moving
I thought adding an additional wild card from each league would make it more exciting but this year is shaping up to be the least climatic in recent years.
