Trump: This issue should have belonged to the states.

Me: Same, and I've been saying it for years.

I'm sick of this dead horse issue. Abortion isn't going anywhere because the Supreme Court has the power to create laws. Women who want their abortion protected as their sacred cow because they want to be independent from men have nothing to fear. Anti Trump forces are playing the abortion card against Trump because he's supposed to hate women.

First it was Trump ordering his campaign manager to assault a woman reporter. Now it's the abortion card.

Reagan was pro life, both Bushes were pro life. Before them, Both Jack and Bobby Kennedy were pro life and Roe Vs. Wade is still in effect and the sacred cow of certain women is still legal.

You can't play a "card" against someone when you just repeat their words. Trump owns what he says and people have the right to judge him for it.

That someone is "Pro Life" is not the problem. The problem is folks who do not understand the difference between 1) having a personal belief and 2) forcing that belief on someone else.

Either you get that distinction or you don't. IMO - if you do not get that distinction you have no business being in a position of political leadership.

It is one of the most basic principles on which this country was founded = Individual rights and freedoms are "Above" the legitimate authority of Gov't.

In other words, you can be pro life all you like, just do not force your personal moral beliefs on others through law. Your rights end where the nose of another "Person" begins.

Biden, when abortion came up in his debate with Ryan, got the answer correct ! He said "I am a Catholic and so my personal belief is against abortion but, I do not believe in forcing my religious beliefs on others"

Trump got caught because 1) he does not get this distinction and 2) there is no good answer to the question of law.

If someone thinks a "LAW" should be made banning abortion - it is abject nonsense that there would not be a punishment for those violating that law. The backtrack position - only doctors should be punished and not women- is a nonsense position as it violates so many principles of justice it is not even funny.

I agree that this should be a "dead horse" issue. Continually harping on this issue is one of the primary reasons why the GOP keeps losing elections.

I really don't care about the opinion of the president on abortion. What difference does one person's opinion make? Besides, since the earth was populated, women have always had the last word on abortion, whether it was legal or illegal. Smart people refuse to be swept into the argument on abortion. Trump needs to learn but he tried to answer a question, unlike most politicians.

I agree that the GOP are a bunch of disingenuous clowns when it comes to Abortion (avoidance at all cost during an election and then legislate while in power)

That Trump was not a disingenuous clown in this respect does not make him politically smart.

His comments were pretty much a "Game Losing" blunder. This issue, and specifically this question, will be haunting the GOP nominee (whomever it turns out to be) to their 2016 electoral grave.

Given that the next president is most likely going to be able to nominate up to two Supreme Court justices, it is a real threat that Roe vs. Wade could be overturned by a religious whackjob justice that Trumptard nominates. So yes, it is a big deal, he stepped on a land mine over it and good riddance to Trump. The extreme right-wing cons won't rest until they have control over everyone's morality and have them bend to their will. Maybe if cons wouldn't pander to the religious nut crowds this wouldn't be an issue.

And Trumps misogyny is well displayed by him.

How'd you miss the fact that states are making it all but impossible to GET an abortion in a lot of cases?

Ah well...Trump said what Republicans think and usually are too smart to utter out loud.

Democratic strategy: The war on women. And not just Trump, all republicans.

The problem republicans have is that they are yet to come up with a counter strategy even when it comes to this dead horse issue.

Hey! I have a great idea for a counter strategy !!

QUIT introducing bill after bill attempting to regulate a legal medical procedure for women !!!!

QUIT trying to shut down clinics that cater to women and their health needs which include BIRTH CONTROL.

TELL Republicans abortion is a dead issue !!!!

Hmmm let's see, how many bills have been introduced by Republicans to attack abortion? Maybe if the Republicans didn't MAKE it an issue, there wouldn't be one. However, they have time and time continued to attack abortion. Well don't be surprised when it is used against them.

    Here's the problem.

In El Salvador, which has very strict abortion laws, there are at present, 16 cases traveling through the courts where women are waiting
in Prison - not because they had an abortion - but because the could NOT PROVE that they had a miscarriage and not an
    abortion.

So when politicians start pulling the word "punishment" out of their arses when discussing abortion, American women had damn
well better stand up and take notice.

This is also why anti-abortion groups crapped their pants when Trump mentioned, "punishment", because they know that
an overwhelming majority of Americans will put the brakes on any abortion policy that includes punishing the mother.

Abortion comments will never hurt a Republican, unless they're pro-abortion comments.

You might want to take a bit of a reality check on that one.

Too many Republican wives, daughters and mistresses have had abortions - and will have abortions, for there to be talk of "punishment"
    from Republican representatives an voters.

Tell that to Trump's continued unfavorable rating among women.

The GOP needs to stop trying to force their religious beliefs on others through law. Women in general do not want to be told by politicians what to do with their own bodies. This is a demographic time bomb for the GOP.

At minimum they should be trying to come to a compromise position rather than maintaining their "black and white" "all or nothing" stance.

It is pretty hard to argue against the Dem "war on women" mantra, when it is a war on women.
