Did Reagan screw up the mission in Beirut? It certainly was not the outcome that anybody but an Islamo-Nazi wanted. I'll concede the point -- score a BAD one for Reagan. Like I said (like I SAID), after that he pulled the Marines out, realizing that trying to secure the Arab Middle East with any kind of American force was not going to work. No other non-Isalamic country has ever tried it since then....

Got ANYTHING to say about how after Reagan had spent the necessary billions on building up the United States military again, and setting up the whole global situation in which the Soviet Union completely fell to pieces, his foreign policy finally got rid of the most potent adversary this country faced since World War II?

Of COURSE I give a lot of the credit for the Reaganomics recovery to Paul Volcker! I wish we had had Mr. Volcker back in the Fed. Reserve Chair instead of Ben "Helicopter" Bernanke during the regimes of both Idiot Bus and Idiot Obama! You want to talk about somebody who completely manipulated everything in the markets, the currencies, and the economy to enrich the very people who caused the whole catastrophe -- that was the Federal Reserve System beginning in August 2007, and the Chairman was Ben Bernanke....

The point was that instead of continue to wither and decay into disorganized weakness, under Reagan we did spend the billions needed to meet the Soviet threat, which was very real and very potent in Western Europe. We saw their audacity when they went barging into Afghanistan, and it was very REAL. But even though, yeah, we ran up the National Debt getting the military back in shape, the Soviet Union couldn't keep up. Moreover, they believed that, unlike Jimmy Carter, or a caretaker Gerald Ford, or a criminal, distracted Richard Nixon, a Ronald Reagan would stand and fight if they dared to pull any serious crap anywhere in the world. They didn't! Within three years after Reagan was gone from office, there was no more Soviet Union! Anybody want to deny that...?

Yeah, let's recap. You have said that I am wrong without offering ONE fact or figure in this post. Any incandescent idiot can do that much... it takes no special talent or wit. Then, since you had nothing (NOTHING) else to offer, you decided to throw a race-card at me. This time I'm not even going to try to defend myself from this kind of attack. If you want to think I'm a "racist", then so be it. I can't help what you think, if, indeed, you actually think before you express yourself at all....

Tell me.. in the absence of any other criteria, would you criticize Obama because he's half-White, or criticize Obama because he's half-Black? You who are incapable of framing and constructing your analytical thoughts without your characteristic "race" compulsion are so sadly shallow....

The point is Reagan had nothing to do with it. No one's denying there is no more Soviet Union and i've already showed you the Soviet Union wasnt trying to " keep up." attributing it to Reagan is clear nonsense.

I will politely disagree with you. I lived during the whole period. I saw it happen right before my eyes. Disbelieve me if you wish. I swear, I watched every bit of it happen -- the good, the bad, the facts as they happened day by day. Too bad you missed it... in the secret parts of your liberal heart, you might have actually liked it, too.... Cheers!

If you want to disagree with the evidence thats fine. What your problem is instead of looking at it hindsight and analzing the facts you're sticking to the cold war propoganda fed to you at the time. I'm showing you data not available at the time

The mission? what was the mission?

The Soviet Union was in the process of collapsing when Reagan got elected, his huge military buildup had no effect on a process that was already in place.
One Soviet Field Marshall, when asked about the Reagan build up, said that without the Reagan build up, the Soviet Union may have lasted two weeks longer.

"Reaganomics" was just Keynesian stimulus on steroids, he tripled the national debt, that was the largest peace time stimulus package in history, Nearly three times the size of the Obama stimulus, unadjusted for inflation, yeah the economy grew.....

Libya destroyed a US 747 while Reagan was in office, I guess they didn't fear him so much....

Well, when you pat Putin and Reagan on the ass and offer baseless criticisms of our "half-black" president, what else am I supposed to think?

You've already been misproven by several other posters in this very thread. Does it need repeating?

I was trying to point out to you the intellectual and factual vapidity of throwing race cards and sputtering around about how anyone who criticizes Obama must (perforce) be a racist.

Would you be surprised to know that I would have been delighted (DELIGHTED!) to have seen Dr. Alan Keyes as President of the United States. Do you even know who that is? And, even with his rather undigestible "9-9-9" tax program, I'd much (MUCH!) rather have had Herman Cain as President of the United States than the empty-suit college teacher we have making an embarrassing spectacle of himself in the White House today. You get a "gold star" pasted to your forehead if you recognized that both Dr. Keyes and Mr. Cain are BLACK!

Race, per se, has nothing to do with what it takes to make a good president, but when it is pointed out to your faction, over and over, that your precious Obama is a liar and a total incompetent, all you can do is throw your race-cards -- which is understandable, in a way, because there IS no defense for anyone as rotten at his job as Obama is....

As far as Putin goes... ah, if you only knew. I spent a lot of my younger adult life in locked opposition to the Soviet Union and the KGB, and everything that they stood for, from a tactical, technological standpoint. That said, Putin is an excellent leader of Russia (for RUSSIANS!), and, he's been recognized as the most effective, most powerful leader in the world today... not because I say so. Ever heard of Forbes Magazine? http://www.forbes.com/sites/carolinehoward/2013/10/30/the-worlds-most-powerful-people-2013/

The U. S. Marines were in Lebanon as part of a Multinational Force. If you know so little about the incident, I'll refer you to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Beirut_barracks_bombing

Don't know much about the Lockerbie bombing, either? I don't come to this forum to be anyone's school teacher, but, here goes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_Am_Flight_103

Try your best to read at least the first three paragraphs before you come back with some other wearisome example of Reagan-bashing... it will save both of us some time.

Afterthought: I can see it will not be possible to explain to either a Gen-X'er or a Millennial what it was like to live in a terribly weakened United States after the Vietnam War, with the Soviet Union very capable of pouncing on the entirety of Western Europe at any moment. THAT is what we lived with under Jimmy Carter (and, to be honest, it was true after the country went in a tailspin with both criminal Nixon, and "caretaker" Ford).

I was IN West Germany while Jimmy Carter was president, and I can tell you that if at any moment the East German and Soviet Union's armed forces had come smashing through the Fulda Gap, running all the way to the Luxembourg/French border, it wouldn't have surprised anyone. On the day after Ronald Reagan became the President-Elect, those fears evaporated and were never felt again.... Have another, nice, delusional day... Comrade Obama has the situation well in hand.... :roflol:

All this talk is nothing more than propaganda and political capital from the deluded right wingers who were silent when Russia invaded Georgia.

It is funny that you cling to that. I implied that your criticism of Obama was racially driven because Obama has more in common with Reagan than Putin, yet you praise Putin. Therefore, I am inclined by logic to think "white conservative" is the common ground by which Reagan and Putin are on the same wavelength.

And between them and Hilary Clinton, I would vote for Hilary over both, just saying (I'm black).

It isn't race.. it is the ideology. However, when your arguments lack some sort of logical consistency, I point out the obvious.

That's funny, because all politicans are liars and Obama has shown himself to be very competent compared to our last few (GOP) presidents. You indict Obama with incompetence constantly, but don't have a shred of evidence in your favor.

I point out Putin because he is a totalitarian borderline dictator yet you and the right wing will praise him for his "strength," despite his ideology being a direct contrary to what you preach.

I don't think he knew. He just told Poindexter and North to do what they had to do and NOT tell him what they did. I believe Reagan was a worm.

Obama is a dictator. Not even Putin has announced that he will rule Russia with "a pen and a phone".

Obama will leave office in 2016. He chose not to attack Syria without Congressional approval.

That's not the acts of a dictator. You are very confused.

The United States and the West achieved an enormous moral victory in the Cold War circa 1990, when Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and John Paul II together forced the Soviet Empire to let go of its European subject peoples -- some of the very nations Putin is now threatening. Those three leaders did so at enormous personal risk -- Reagan and John Paul II were severely wounded in assassination attempts, and the Stalinist Provisional IRA tried to assassinate Maggie Thatcher.

The West won that final confrontation because we represented the moral high ground, as Eastern Europeans and many Russians understood very well.

Obama is the anti-Reagan. He is the anti-Lincoln and the anti-Truman. Reagan, Lincoln, and Truman never lost track of the moral high ground. This administration has never found it.

What seems to motivate Obama and his kind is a bitter hatred for all that is good and decent in America. It is an inversion of values, driven by demagogues like Jesse Jackson and Jeremiah Wright. That is why Obama concedes everything to Putin and Iran’s Rouhani, and blames Israel and America for their basic moral values. This is the administration of revanchisme, the philosophy of revenge.

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2014/03/dangerous_times_obama_surrenders.html

No personal comment, for none is needed. Dump all the garbage you can on Reagan, he'll still forever remain to be a shining star in the American history.

A naiveté at its best. The reason Obama DUMPED responsibility on Congress is because he wanted to DUMP responsibility on Congress. That's not a Leadership. That's being a wimp.

Were there also pantywaists bleating that Eisenhower was a weakling when Soviets invaded Hungary in 1956?

Or Johnson, when they crushed Czechoslovakia IN 1968?

Or Reagan, when Wojciech Jaruzelski, backed by the USSR, imposed marshall law on Poland in 1981?
Or when he cut and ran from Beirut after 241 Americans were slaughtered in 1983? (Or do they blame the inadequate security on Hillary Clinton?)

Or the Bush, when he was impotent against Russians rolling over Georgia in 2008?

I'm willing to bet there were mewling pantywaists in every instance but, fortunately, all such pathetic moaners are quickly consigned to history's dustbin.

Was he? As I remember it, Roosevelt won four Presidential elections. Also America was an isolationist country before December 7, 1941. No one ever considered FDR a weak president. Progressives thought Hitler was stronger and more attuned to their way of thinking. Certainly Hitler adopted and used their Progressive techniques. You know Eugenics, Bernays use of propaganda, concentration camps, and racist tactics.

Putin is stronger than Obama, but Obama is the most clever. Obama will impose sanctions on Putin -- but to Putin the recovering of his Crimea, will be well worth the sacrifice of enduring some sanctions.

Obama and Putin will meet and Putin will agree to not bother Ukraine any more if Obama lifts the sanctions. Obama will lift the sanctions and ... become known as the hero who saved Ukraine from Russia.

After Obama leaves office, Putin will be up to his mischief again and will liberate his more conservative and prosperous eastern Ukrainians from the EU hippies of socialist western Ukraine.

Yeah, Reagan beat the Dickens out of Grenada, then bolted like hell when 500 Marines were slaughtered in Lebanon. Reagan had nothing to do with the demise of the USSR, that's just another Fox News fairy tale. He was a pretty good actor and a somewhat likeable guy who read his lines well, nothing more. As far as being a strong leader, he was a joke. Bush's gang of crooks were the power behind Reagan's two terms.

Sorry, but it was not 'together'. John Paul II and the Catholics in Poland (especially in Gdansk) forced the Soviet Empire to let go. Reagan and Thatcher did nothing except wait for the news to come.

What do you mean by "aggressive"? I'm pretty sure Obama wins that category.
