Yeah... You have more ethnic and religious diversity but mainstream culture is very very similar. Danes and Americans listen to the same music, watch the same things and read much of the same.

But leave that be.... The interesting part was whether the USA could have the same social system with free healthcare, benefits and education as most of Europe. And of course you can. Saying otherwise is just the last reflex cramps Americans come with when trying to defend the notion that it isn't possible.

The thing is, Sanders is just a social democrat. He doesn't actually promote abolishing capitalism. And until he does, I cannot support him.

 

He was quoted as saying they weren't as bad as everyone made them out to be, and the Sandanistas were hardly communists, social democrats perhaps, but hardly communist.

Nicaragua has been a cesspool for almost 100 years, and mostly due to our meddling in a foreign nation's affairs. We should butt out and stick to the homefront.

Anyone that thinks money grows on trees is not qualified to be president. And anyone that would vote for someone like that just because he makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside should have their voting privilege revoked.

 

He has given how he would do it, and that 18 trillion number is a lie.

Because it's not 18 trillion in new spending, he'd be replacing current programs with new ones that cost the same, or cost less in the long run. That lie of a story that his programs will cost more are only looking at the raw data, not at what gets thrown out to make room for the new programs.

Do some research next time.

 

The difference is that he explains HOW he'd do it. It's not just empty promises, all of his ideas would be payed for.

There have communists in this country since before I was born and I'm 58. We all know them, the folks down the street too dumb to make their own way in the world so they have to depend on others to put food in their mouths and clothes on their backs.....then feel entitled to it.

Here's the problem I have with how he's paying for it though. He's taxing the rich, which is good. Guess which group of people have started renouncing their US citizenship's to avoid taxes.....you guessed it.....the rich. How do you collect money from a group of people that aren't there? Will all do this, probably not, but I would bet a bunch will.

True Communism can't work on a very large scale (state) let along country. It requires everyone to do their part and we all know not everyone will.

 

First lie by Tony, that the credit rating was knocked down due to debt, it was knocked down when there was a charge to shut down the government and not raise the debt limit.

To give this twit some perspective, we had a balanced budget till the George Bush tax cuts came about, and increased free trade focus on China. This all under the Republican watch.

Shut the door on free trade that cripples our economy, free trade with countries that have a comparable standard of living works, free trade with people who are paid pennies on the dollar for the same work only drains money from the middle class and puts it in the hands of the rich.

Raise taxes back to at least the Clinton years, I'd go higher to be blunt.

Communism did work. And it worked pretty well in many ways - other ways, not so good. Have you ever talked to anyone who lived in communist Romania under Ceausescu or similar ?

There were many things that were not "ideal" but, everyone had a place to live and food on the table and everyone worked.

Not the system I favor by any stretch but let things slide far enough and that alternative becomes more appealing.

 

Most won't and his transaction tax would be immune to that as it applies to anyone moving money on Wall Street.

There is literally nothing any Communist country ever did for its citizens that was better, or even comparable, to a Capitalist country. No, not even caring for the poor, because EVERYONE except the Party bigwigs were poor.

Some of the poor in the "USA" today are more poor than in communist Romania. Everyone had free healthcare, dental, and so on.
Everyone had property and a place to live.
Everyone had a job.
Everyone had good education. Our current education system is a joke compared to what existed, and still exists in Eastern Europe.
Everyone was fed.

"Nothing ... there was Nothing .. NOTHING... NOTHING... NOTHING". Really now .. such broad generalizations are not the sign of a well thought out argument.

 

That's not communism, that's one of the features of capitalist USA.
