I'm confused about a couple of things about this race. Can you guys clarify? 1. I thought the Senators from each state had to be on different election cycles. 2. Why are there two races? It's the same job. Why not just get the top two vote getters? Is one running for senior senator and one for junior senator? I'm not completely clear on the whys & hows of this race.
Senator Johnny Isakson announced his resignation for health reasons, effective by the end of 2020. One of the Georgia senator seats was due for re-election, so with Isakson's seat added to it, there are two races.
States run their elections how they want and in Georgia they require 50% to win or they redo it. All states have their own little rules and you would have to research them all to get that answer. More than likely something happened in GA history where they felt they needed that change.
No, there are two separate seats up for election, one in the normal cycle, and one opening from a sitting senator resigning, that will be up for another election in two years.
I get that. It's the same job, though. When we vote for commisssioner, it's four seats. It's not four races. Who decided which two went against which two? Seems it would have been more efficient to just have one race with four candidates.
