One of the Most Eminent, if not the MOST Eminent Scholars of our time is the Stanford Prof Thomas Sowell whom I'd vote in as President of the United States of America in a blink of an eye. Prof Thomas Sowell's findings about the disparity of income between Caucasians and Blacks was news to me because I, as well as probably many of you, thought that with the increasingly Welfare State progression in America since the 80's (and maybe earlier) one woulda thought the income gap would narrow. After all, isn't that the first thing that one thinks about when arguments are presented for increasing Welfare benefits ? The plight of the Blacks ever "victimized" by the whites ? Ignoring the fact that our Blacks if left in Africa and not sold as slaves to America primarily by their Black bros ...... would still be in Africa, the wonderful "Africa the Beautiful", which didn't have a written language until recently except English & French, where Abysmal Ignorance is the norm, slavery (much diminished) still persists, whereas it has totally disappeared in the rest of the World.......and people, basically, subsist on pebbles & grass with an IQ hovering around 70, and even lower in some areas ? As compared to the American Blacks who tool around in "Cadillac cars", stuff themselves on greasy "soul food" to the point that, on the average, the diabetes rates amongst the Blacks are as astounding as their criminality rates ......even though Blacks, because of their Monolithic Black Vote of greater than 10% of the Total Vote of Americans and the connivance of the Ultra Corrupt Congressional Black Caucus literally OWNS the DEM Party .....which couldn't possibly exist without their vote ? Let me refer you to the Brilliant Stanford Prof Thomas Sowell who narrates his analysis under the title: "Race & Rhetoric", as follows: One of the things that turned up, during a long-overdue cleanup of my office, was an old yellowed copy of the New York Times dated July 24, 1992. One of the front-page headlines said: "White-Black Disparity in Income Narrowed in 80's, Census Shows." The 1980s? Wasn't that the years of the Reagan administration, the "decade of greed," the era of "neglect" of the poor and minorities, if not "covert racism"? More recently, during the administration of America's first black president, a 2011 report from the Pew Research Center has the headline, "Wealth Gaps Rise to Record Highs Between Whites, Blacks and Hispanics." While the median net worth of whites was ten times the median net worth of blacks in 1988, the last year of the Reagan administration, the ratio was nineteen to one in 2009, the first year of the Obama administration. With Hispanics, the ratio was eight to one in 1988 and fifteen to one in 2009. Race is just one of the areas in which the rhetoric and the reality often go in opposite directions. Political rhetoric is intended to do one thing -- win votes. Whether the policies that accompany that rhetoric make people better off or worse off is far less of a concern to politicians, if any concern at all. Democrats receive the overwhelming bulk of the black vote by rhetoric and by presenting what they have done as the big reason that blacks have advanced. So long as most blacks and whites alike mistake rhetoric for reality, this political game can go on. A Manhattan Institute study last year by Edward Glaeser and Jacob Vigdor showed that, while the residential segregation of blacks has generally been declining from the middle of the 20th century to the present, it was rising during the first half of the 20th century. The net result is that blacks in 2010 were almost as residentially unsegregated as they were back in 1890. There are complex reasons behind such things, but the bottom line is plain. The many laws, programs and policies designed to integrate residential housing cannot be automatically assumed to translate into residentially integrated housing. Government is not the sole factor, nor necessarily the biggest factor, no matter what impression political rhetoric gives. No city is more liberal in its rhetoric and policies than San Francisco. Yet there are less than half as many blacks living in San Francisco today as there were in 1970. Nor is San Francisco unique. A number of other very liberal California counties saw their black populations drop by 10,000 people or more, just between the 1990 and 2000 censuses -- even when the total population of these counties was growing. One of the many reasons why rhetoric does not automatically translate into reality is that the ramifications of so many government policies produce results completely different from what was claimed, or even believed, when these policies were imposed. The poverty rate among blacks was nearly cut in half in the 20 years prior to the 1960s, a record unmatched since then, despite the expansion of welfare state policies in the 1960s. Unemployment among black 16 and 17-year-old males was 12 percent back in 1950. Yet unemployment rates among black 16 and 17-year-old males has not been less than 30 percent for any year since 1970 -- and has been over 40 percent in some of those years. Not only was unemployment among blacks in general lower before the liberal welfare state policies expanded in the 1960s, rates of imprisonment of blacks were also lower then, and most black children were raised in two-parent families. At one time, a higher percentage of blacks than whites were married and working. None of these facts fits liberal social dogmas. While many politicians and "leaders" have claimed credit for black progress, no one seems to be willing to take the blame for the retrogressions represented by higher unemployment rates, higher crime rates, and higher rates of imprisonment today. Or for the disintegration of the black family, which survived centuries of slavery and generations of government-imposed discrimination in the Jim Crow era, but began coming apart in the wake of the expansion of the liberal welfare state and its accompanying social dogmas. A lot of what you said was inaccurate and (I think deliberately) misleading, but this particular statement really stuck out for me.
If people are going to relate near-incomprehensible or insurmountable lists of problems like that in the OP; I'd prefer they limit it to one or two items and share what they think/believe the REAL and/or PRACTICAL solutions would be. Then (even if they were possibly inaccurate in their views) we could see their motives and more importantly what they actually know.
Absolutely accurate. Obviously, by Sub-Saharan Africa not having a written language except for English & French "recently" one means in "historical time". And, Ethiopia may have been a solitary exception in the sense that only a handful of monks practiced what may be considered a written language whereas the rest of country was wallowing in total ignorance. Comparison with China, or Europe, where Shakespeare and other writings were centuries ahead of Sub Saharan Africa make your vague disagreement of my NUMEROUS irrefutable facts a JOKE. The Sub-Saharan Africa may have had spots more intellectually superior to the cannibals in Borneo. Or, the Australian Aborigine who, again, until "recent" (historical times), did not have a number greater than "TWO" !!! It was ONE, TWO then.......MANY !!!
I think this is the most important part of this entire post. Liberal policies have destroyed the family unit in America and no one has suffered more as a result of this than black folks. Ignorant benevolence is ultimately no better than intentional malice if it produces destructive results. But liberals are entirely too proud (or possibly too fragile) to ever take an honest look at their actions and their history and admit that they have hurt the very people they wanted to help. And until they can acknowledge this, they will continue to be part of the problem instead of the solution. There is no shame in making a mistake or being wrong. So I urge liberals to practice a little humility here. If you really care about these people, you owe it to them.

Where I was "inaccurate" was in not defining "Sub Saharan" Africa. My error was based on the fact that American Blacks keep yapping about their great intellectual "heritage" in the framework of "Africa the Beautiful" .....and I was addressing that canard. Obviously Northern Africa i.e., Egypt, etc.......was not meant to be within that scope of reference.

Actually, until the printing press was invented not very many Europeans could read either. The areas with the best history of reading are the Middle East and China. Note that at the time of the First Crusade, there were approximately 300 books in Christian Spain and about 1,300,000 books in Muslim Spain. I would agree that Africa lagged behind the other continents (although the natives of North America had very little reading until the Europeans turned up), but places like Sudan and Upper Volta also had reading in reasonable numbers for centuries, as they were middle-men between Africa proper and the Mediterranean.

Okay. You have Sowell to believe. Others with equal academic acumen have disagreed with him. There are some aspects of "socialism" which we need to adopt PRONTO. It is likely "flipping" in your own mind. We have a VERY American model that is quite disastrous; that is clearly evident. One doesn't have to be "Sowell" to see that.
