Racial segregation in America down to lowest point in a century

I know that this was meant to be humorous, but people need to start realizing that race isn't genetic, it's cultural.

my county is the most segregated, safest(or usually top 3), and richest(top 10 but its been in the top 3 before). seems to work out well for my county (Nassau County). not saying i like segregation but in my county's situation it seems to due well.

I think part of the trend is because section eight housing vouchers are allowing low income blacks to move into white communitites where housing costs are at record lows. In other words, people living off the welfare state aren't going through a recession. Of course, more whites than blacks are on welfare because of demographics.

 

........lolz. Boy, the "blacks are on welfare" rhetoric never gets old.....and by never, I mean always. Its even worse when you ignore those crazy facts and make up your own conclusion that spits in the face of logic....but hey, whatever helps you sleep at night. This is definitely a good thing. In my experience racism is less abundant in racially integrated neighborhoods and cities.

People have less of a tendency to use racial slurs and stereotypes when their neighbor or their grocer or the little kids selling lemonade are members of that group whereas racism in a completely segregated community is much easier because they never have to actually put a face to their hatred.

No I dont think you would support segregation. However one person had a interesting comment on that page. They said many times people prefer to live with their own kind, I think that's true. Nothing wrong with that as long as the neighborhood is safe.
Here on Long Island NY Many of the neighborhoods are the same, aprox the same tax's, same cost for the home yet the neighborhoods are almost always mostly either black or white...not mixed. No particular reason, other than that's where the people rather live.

 

My first question would be how many people do you know that are on Section 8 housing?

Two when did Section 8 housing become only for black folks?

It tickles me when I hear folks like you try to make the claim that welfare, section 8 housing, etc. is for black folks only.

So do low income whites on section 8 housing move into white communities.

I don't think it's simply because "that's where they would rather live" as much as it is due to the specific ethno-historical background of certain areas. The combination of Jim Crow, disparities in access to the labor and housing markets, white flight, disinvestment due to redlining by financial institutions, and failed developmental efforts are definitely major factors. Sure, preference is also a factor, but I feel that it is often a smokescreen to (either consciously or unconsciously) hide these problems.
