Sounds like he was required to have short hair for safety reasons. What his hair got caught in some piece of machinery? Who would he blame for that?

sure if it was an OSH issue the decision would not have been handed down in his favour ....

and another thing ... does anyone have a picture of this guy?

I know rasta people who are not black, and the majority of guys I know who sport dreadies are white ...

so I am wondering if the racists are actually in the right thread :)

most of the rastas I have met are pretty hard working, and I would imagine that of he didn't want to work, he wouldn't have applied to do a job in the forst place.

    what is your problem?

you think that people with dreadlocks shouldn't be allowed to work?

It may be different in Australia but very few white dreads in the US are actual Rastafarians. They claim to be Rastas but the only similarities are the haircut and the weed. They're referred to as "Trustafarians" since they are generally spoiled rich kids.

It's funny because nearly all of the white "Rastas" I've ever met were die hard atheists as well. So much for researching a thing before claiming it as their own.

Either way, I don't see how his skin tone is relevant.

lols - if they are rasta wannabees here they seem to be a bit new agey and that doesn't fit with my understanding of atheism

    it shouldn't be.

just that a few comments in this thread have indicated that his being black has something to do with it, which is why I wondered what he looked like - how do they know he's black?

your post kind of clarifies for me that in the US it may be a reasonable assumption that he is, which I guess accounts for the racist comments.

And I disagree. John Edwards made millions on totally bogus lawsuits. It is like a lottery and the trial lawyers hairdo and acting ability are major factors in winning millions or having a political career.

yeah but if he was being discriminated against and there was no reason why his dreadlocks would create an OSH issue, then he is in the right.

regardless of what you think, discrimination is unlawful.

Why? Doesn't the business owner have rights as to how his employees interact with his customers and the image he wants his business to portray? What if he refused to where a uniform because his religious beliefs say he must wear robes?
