Anyone have experience with this unit? I scored it at a junk store. Looks like a good set up, but I have my doubts about how the powder dispenser is engineered. It's set up for 45 ACP, but I'm going to swap it over to 38 Super and dedicate it to that caliber. Hooked up this MEC Sizemaster too
sadly I have no experience with that rig. I have used Dillons for 38 years now-several 550s, two 1050s and a square deal. I have A Mac 9000 in each gauge and I have two hydraulics as well (one is FUBAR-the other is sitting in packaging after being rebuilt by MEC-I don't shoot enough to justify using it anymore)
Sailing and reloading require concentration and calmness. They are the two most relaxing things people can do.
RCBS generally makes good stuff - throw 50-100 charges, measure them, and decide if you trust it. I do not like the RCBS primer setup - I prime with a Lee had primer.
even the big commercial Dillon 1050 has a crappy primer feed-while the 550 and their cheapest unit the square deal -is far better. The 1050 has that primer pocket reamer which is why their primer feed is second rate. I like the lee hand primer-I like the RCBS one better. What I do is run about 5000-7000 9mm through the decaying/sizing die on the 1050 and then hand prime them. takes a bit more time but I never get a buggered up primer
Nice! It looks similar to the Hornady Lock N Load I use. I would test the powder dispenser to make sure its consistent. Is it missing the primer tube?
I am used to the Hornady priming system. It saves a lot of time and rarely gives me trouble. My powder measure is fairly consistent. Most of the rounds I reload don't need an exact charge. Reloading for the M1 Garand needs an accurate charge, so I use an automatic trickler. I enjoy putting on some music and spending some time on the reloading bench. During Covid, people had a hard time finding ammo. I was having a hard time finding a place to store mine!
Update on the RCBS Piggyback. I replaced that other weird set up and installed a case activated system for the powder drop. Took the priming system off. I prime everything by hand, even on my Dillon and Hornady machines. It runs good. I can do about a hundred rounds in an hour. I've gotten spoiled by my case feeders and sometimes forget to put a fresh case. That's no big deal. It slows down production a little; no safety issues.
