The first one I ever remember was before Big Brother, a Welsh lady called Maureen Rees who tried and failed so many times to pass a driving test and was a star in a reality show in the 1990s called Driving School. She released a cover song and I bought the single, and thought she wrote it, it was later when I was older and I heard the original. Her music video for it. Airport was this show I loved about London's Heathrow back in the 1990s. Jeremy Spake rose to fame Also, there was another show about Easy Jet (UK based budget airline) called Come Fly With Me. - Can't remember anyone from this show though, tbh. One of my favourite reality shows died, R.I.P, From Shipping Wars, Roy Garber died. R.I.P I also watch Pawn Stars, Storage Wars (and Storage Wars Texas) and American Pickers (had a phase of Canadian Pickers, which in my country was called Cash Cowboys).
Reality TV has to be amongst the worst phenomenons Modernity has to offer. It is the epitome of degeneracy and how anyone can become famous for having sex on camera, being stupid or being obnoxious is beyond me. I know that the show Survivor is a Swedish invention though, but since I never followed it (or any other reality show), I cannot give you any names. There are one or two names that I will recognise are from such shows whenever I see them. But, right now I cannot think of any.
I know about a half dozen from around my city in the sense they know who I am I know who they are. Most of them I just frequent the same local watering hole as them enough to have conversed with them periodically. A girl I dated in 10th grade for about 6 weeks went on to become one of the legions of VH1 loose women, but I forget the name of the show. I never saw it as i was overseas when it aired but was told she wasn't really one of the stand out ho's and wouldn't put out on the show so she didn't get a lot of camera time. She was nutters then so I have no doubt she is even more nutters now. Can't say that I really "like" any reality stars. Deadliest Catch and Below Deck are the few non-competition reality shows I will watch. I do sort of know but not closely someone who was on Below Deck as we have buddies in common and have been in the same place a few times in a prior life, but I would be hesitant to call them a friend or even a close acquaintance.
A friend of mine from uni was recently on one of these "quiz shows", watched it with high hopes for him as he is a total nerd who knows the most random trivia, but he blew it.
