A new book is coming out about her life story, many stories like this finally being told about living in the jim crow south Recy Taylor, a 24-year-old African-American sharecropper, was walking home from church in Abbeville, Ala., on the night of Sept. 3, 1944, when she was abducted and raped by six white men. The crime was extensively covered in the black press and an early catalyst for the civil rights movement. The N.A.A.C.P. sent a young activist from its Montgomery, Ala., chapter named Rosa Parks to investigate. African-Americans around the country demanded that the men be prosecuted. But the attack, like many involving black victims during the Jim Crow era in the South, never went to trial. RANT START When I think that if these guys were alive today, they almost certainly would vote for Trump...it makes my contempt for Trumpbots all the more significant (though I realize the vast majority of Trumpbots are not rapists. But racist...I think the hardcore Trumpbots are mostly racist/xenophobic/misogynistic - all of which are contemptible and 'un-American'). I wish Trump had the guts to just come out and admit he thinks 'whites' are superior to all other races. This closet white supremacist nonsense is pathetic. It's bad enough he is clearly racist...but he is cowardly about it to boot. If there is one type of belief that shows CRYSTAL CLEAR that someone is TRULY stupid and/or mentally disturbed...it is racism. And rape? It is too bad that rapists cannot all be automatically given life sentences (if you did, they would have no reason not to kill their victims to remove an eyewitness)...because as far as I am concerned - if you can do it once, you will NEVER change. RANT END I am very pleased this woman went on to live a long (and seemingly) fruitful life...hopefully long outliving the scum who raped her. R.I.P.
