So the real question is why are electric charging stations for EVs charging retired EV batteries which are obviously no longer fit for use in EVs ?

Again, I'm short on details. If they're storing renewable power (i.e. large banks of PVs or some large wind turbines), this would be an efficient storage method. All charging station power would go through the batteries. Some banks would be charging, while others would be distributing. Capacitors don't hold power very long.

Now that question is covered in the link. The batteries are below the 80% range, which makes them unsuitable for EVs. However, the batteries still have 10-15 years of life, for energy storage, before they get recycled. You can't double-up or triple-up batteries in a car, because of the weight, but you can do this for power storage.

Mate - we are looking to put in a lot more grid batteries since Hornsdale in South Australia became nice and profitable but don’t tell the denialists that because it is now a religion made of old cars and light bulbs!

I am fascinated by the opportunities offered by Vanadium. See it was one of ours that invented the Vanadium redox batteries back in the eighties (university of NSW). The big hold up has been availability of Vanadium but then they found a huge deposit between Julia Creek and Richmond in Qld Australia https://richmondvanadium.com.au/our-projects/

Vanadium redox is scalable but then so is recycling Li batteries. What keeps going through MY head with all of this is something I read back in the eighties “If governments invested into green energy the same amount they are paying in subsidies to coal and oil we would have the problems solved”

Dunno about America but Aus has lots and lots of long straight roads. You could hook those batteries into a solar grid, sit back and make money. Mind you there is at least one trucking fleet looking to go with hydrogen to do the run between Melbourne and Adelaide

Sure you did. If so, you lost. The post is dead-center relevant to the thread topic because declining EV sales reduce demand for recycled batteries for charging.

Most predominantly ICE manufacturers are facing an even more dire slowdown. Most notably Stellantis (Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram). They are doing terribly, and could go bankrupt completely. Inventories are supposed to be maintained at about a 50-day level, but they are at 152 days in the US. Their China division already declared bankruptcy.

Stellantis is sitting on tons of unsold new cars as Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram all had enough inventory to last at least 152 days.

Stellantis Jeep joint venture in China to file for bankruptcy

This company lacks innovation. Their cars all look like something from the 1980s, and they have nothing in the way of EVs and PHEVs. They finally announced that they will market their first EV in 2024 - the Fiat. They are the worst of the behind-the-eight-ball American car manufacturers.

They will be fine. The Stellantis problem in China has nothing to do with vehicles.

Thanks for the info. My wife and I really enjoyed a trip to Australia in the '90s. Enjoyed a sleeper car on the train from Brisbane to Aerlie Beach. Took a 3-day yacht tour of the Great Barrier Reef. Everywhere the people were extremely friendly.

Your Reuters article cites GM as evidence of EV sales declining. GM has never truly been pro-EV. Time after time, in the last 20 years, they have gone out of their way to kill the electric car. Pay attention to Tesla and Tesla only in the US.

Then why are so many Asian countries entering the EV market?

    1. Their governments' industrial policies.
    2. A new technology offers a level playing field to new entrants.

Most of these new entrants will fail.

Veering this thread off-topic again. This is on-topic - EV batteries are now being recycled, against the argument that naysayers used to use. How's it going with the recycling of petroleum?

Bowerbird asked a question. I answered. If you want to complain about going off-topic, take it up with her.
Petroleum is recycled as productivity and prosperity.
