Wow. Just Effing Wow! McKay and Payne put on a wicked good show. Totally didn't see it coming. The thing is, I'm not sure how many folks there are in the audience that have sufficient experience to appreciate how well this plot was put together.

I'll not reveal the twist I'm referring to here in the OP, but it is fabulous for a kid like me that cranked through the trilogy in 8/9th grade. The classic young reader that hurled the RotK against the bedroom wall when it appeared that Frodo had been killed by Shelob.

This twist is I think even better for nerds like me that actually read the appendix. The appendix of the RotK is the basis for this show, or so I've been told by a friend of mine that is way way way too far into JRRT fiction. And yeh, it crosses into stuff from the Silmarillion as well, but supposedly, well, nah, too much detail about what the chef is doing in the kitchen from my friend regarding copyrights and other uninteresting minutia, to me anyway. He actually thrives on all of it.

So, for those that read Tolkien, what did you think of this twist? Did you see it coming? Or were you, like me, flabbergasted by the Scene?

    p.s.

Before I created this thread I searched to see if there was already one to post in.

Found one that seems to be *the* one, littered with flotsam and jetsam from our right honorable anti-woke friends from across the aisle.

    Nope, no thanks.
