Rising Cost of Living Makes It Hard for People To Feed Their Families

    Showing up at food lines:

'more of the folks seeking assistance are working families who are struggling to make ends meet as their cost of living skyrockets. Paying for child care, housing, cars, heating and other basic needs doesn’t leave enough money these days for food, which has also risen sharply in price, Souvigney hears time and time again.'

The prosperity of Trump has given way to FJB's want and lack.

“Most of the new folks are working families,” she said. “Many of the jobs aren’t paying enough to take care of expenses and put away a little savings. It now seems that one unexpected expense tips people’s finances.”

    Everything is so expensive.

Almost as bad now as during COVID

“It’s a tough environment for people,” said Jason Jakubowski, CEO of Connecticut Foodshare, the state’s food bank, which partners with more than 600 food pantries, meal programs and mobile distribution sites that served more than 40 million meals in the last fiscal year. “We’re at a point where the need is about the same as it was at the peak of the pandemic.”

Things won't get better under FJB.

    Please discuss.

The government is not reporting the truth about inflation. I have been around for 14 presidents. It was only this bad under Carter. People vote their pocketbooks and that's why the government is not reporting the truth about inflation. The government workers are mostly democrats and want Biden to win again -- to hell with the USA and the truth.

The government (through its puppet-masters in the Federal Reserve System) lies through its teeth about inflation, debt-versus-GDP, employment/unemployment stats, etc. But, honestly, any "family" that can't feed itself in the U. S. needs only to get on any of many government welfare, 'subsidy', and handout programs, including TANF, SNAP, and several others.

Why is it so hard to get an accurate view of what's REALLY going on with the economy as it affects most Americans? Because the almighty-god Federal Reserve System choses not to even bother to consider things like food, fuel, house prices, and many other things that directly and constantly challenge those with less than seven-figure bank balances!

But perhaps the most glaring of all the discrepancies is that seen in Dept. of Labor statistics regarding unemployment. The only statistic in the unemployment tables that tells the true, accurate story is what's called the "U-6" report... take a look: https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t15.htm

The REAL unemployment rate for the United States right now has risen in the past year to a current 7.4%, as of April 2024. And, the most significant number of people hired in jobs since about last September has been for civil service jobs (the GOVERNMENT). No wonder the National Debt-versus-GDP ratio has risen to a staggering 123%... and it's still rising! Hint: government jobs don't produce anything!

[IMG]."Yeah, but the stock market's happy, so who gives a ****...?!"

Yea, the Federal Government changed the way they calculate inflation more than decade ago, which understates it. Food and housing are through the roof, and the climate change crazies are determined to make it worse with their draconian energy policies. You have pay over $1,000 a month just live in a rundown chicken coop. I'm over $50 before I get out the fruit and vegetable aisle at the grocery store. If you are buying meat, it's far worse.

I'm in the top 1% of income, and I'm feeling the inflation. I have no idea how the lower and middle class are doing it.

So why don't Republicans tell us what they would do? Other than swinging their Orange rabbit foot over their heads for good luck, certainly there must be some real legislation they have in mind to combat this, no? Or is it all just political fluff, as usual?

They would lay off the climate change craziness and drill for more oil. They would pipe oil of Canada if the deal can be revived. They would stop passing debt busting trillion dollar spending bills.

They would cut off unending stream of illegal aliens which are busting local spending budgets. Money should be spent on Americans, not illegals. New York City is spending more on illegals than it is on police and fire combined. That is sick.

That is why the Trumplican party has become the party of grievance. They have no solution other than to vote for the twice impeached, 4 times indicted, groper in chief.

Invest in energy and stop over-regulatuling. Stop borrowing and printing money for frivolous partisan spending, like the "Inflation Reduction Act" that every expert said was going to make it worse in the near future when we need the most relief. We'd have been better off doing nothing. But Biden and Democrats have been going out of their way to intentionally make it worse. All we can do now is vote for people who will end the insanity.

At this point it looks like my retirement plan might be my fairly cheap but reliable on off-road motorcycle and a tent and some time to travel.

Being a motorcycle bum looks more appealing by the day. I bet I could make $5,000 go quite a ways that way..... But probably not as far as I think especially if this idiot gets reelected.

Then there's always the buying old pontoon boat and fix it up and do a cheap houseboat and live like a coastal houseboat bum ...... Decisions decisions.

Of course I've always sort of wanted to do that kind of thing but what better time to do it then when homeownership and even rent is ridiculous?

In case you are not aware of it (it's been posted on these forum boards plenty of times) we do not have an oil shortage (not yet), what we have is price manipulations by the oil industry all the while they make billions in profits. Once again, you are highlighting the inability of Repubs to be able to think beyond the next election towards the future of the country.

And as far as the immigration issue, Repubs own it it now since they caved into the Orange baby's cries.

Yes of course because it was Republicans that stood up there on that stage and all raised their hand for free healthcare for illegal immigrants.... And of course it wasn't really Joe Biden that stood up there and told all of the migrants to immediately surge the border...... And of course it wasn't Joe Biden that ended the remain in Mexico policy that was very effective in reducing the numbers of illegals flooding our borders.

And of course it's not the Democrat party that keeps crowing about a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegals.

No no..... That's our Republicans fault for not voting on the poisonous immigration bill that did more for other nations and immigrants than it actually did for American citizens.

Go sell that scat to someone that's buying....

The IRA has a lot of benefits, especially for Medicare recipients. You may not care because you're not on Medicare yet, but you will be soon enough.

I’ll stand by my statements; you stand by yours. If you have such a good case, why doesn’t you party run on the issues?

In case you are not aware of it (it's been posted on these forum boards plenty of times) energy costs are due to supply and demand. Unfortunately, Biden and Democrats have been doing everything they can impose costly regulations and limit domestic energy production leaving us completely at the whims of external manipulations.

Just because you like one part of the IRA doesn't mean you have to support all of the frivolous nonsense and driving up inflation that Biden and the Democrats have intentionally done. The only reason to call the IRA the "Inflation Reduction Act" was to spread propaganda to get pet projects and wasteful spending approved. It was a combination of "Green New Deal" and "Build Back Better" nonsense and it drove up inflation.

Wow, I bet you're wearing your red MAGA hat now, aren't you? Cinco de Mayo has nothing to do with Mexican Independence day.

I guess you didn’t bother to look at that Democrat debate, or you have forgotten it. You have no basis to call @FatBack a liar.

Yes, because we all know that Repubs will do nothing regarding our roads, bridges, train tracks, and air traffic safety because they will just pray to their god.

Then feel free to point out where in the ACA it provides healthcare to undocumented individuals.
