In Mid 2019 Volodymyr Zelenskyy became president of the nation of Ukraine formed in 1991 in the break up of the USSR. He won 71% of the vote.

UK Guardian 20 Feb 2022: 'When Volodymyr Zelenskiy sought to become Ukraine’s president he stood on a platform of peace. Zelenskiy promised to sit down with Vladimir Putin and to reach a deal with Russia. He would end the unpopular war in the east and concentrate on important domestic reforms.'

In retrospect it is fairly clear Zelenskiy was already headed for war, not peace.

In the US Trump was impeached for delaying a large weapons shipment
to Kyiv, and as soon as Democrats secured the Presidency and Congress
there was 700 million dollars in aid sent to Kyiv, in weapons and military
salaries, and money to grease palms of course.

Zelenskyy was elected to fight corruption and to bring peace and he
    did the exact opposite.

I would call that a runaway government.

The election can be 100% fair, but if the elected simply do the opposite
to what they promised, then the democracy is non functional.

Its Cheatocracy; you are promised one thing but get something else.

When Trump left, Putin saw it as his chance. Has nothing to do with Zelenskyy. Putin apparently underestimated the NATO resolve this time, and here we are.

    Hi Chrizton,

It's true that Zelenskyy breaking his promise was not deliberate and premeditated,
but was due to the Azov and other groups telling him what he could not do.

Pres. Vladimir Putin has long been of the same opinion as Poland, historically
an enemy of Russia, but in agreement on one thing, that it would be best if
Ukraine was neutral. It can still be armed, but neutral and no big threat to
    anyone.

The war came after years of warning NATO not to station weapons in Ukraine,
and the President and Vice President of the Russian Federation
kept warning the US and NATO not to weaponize Ukraine, and the US
and NATO continued to weaponize Ukraine.

Finally on Feb 16th 2022 shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces of civilians in
Donetsk increased from about 3 per day to 30 or 40 per day, and after giving
an ultimatum, ignored by Biden, Russia moved some forces in to protect
the civilian population of Donetsk, which Ukraine considered to be in rebellion.

But all this is a matter of record available to the public.

That Putin moved forces in was not due to Biden's arrival but due to the weapons
Congress sent arriving and being used on Donetsk.
