Here the photo of winter which at foreigners most often is associated with Russia Simply snowfall. Though strong, but habitual. Moscow. Spring (March, 25) of 2013

In Russia, really, people like to read. Earlier, sometimes, I went to office by the subway and see, a half of the people reads books, another half — newspapers. Now paper books already almost are read nobody. E-book readers, tablets, communicators/smartphones... It is quite old photo, the 2004th year. I with the wife went by the river boat and I saw such reader.

 

Dark side of Moscow. Traffic jams. Many people don't want to use mass transit (public transport). The roads network of Moscow was formed hundreds years ago. It has an appearance not of a perpendicular lattice as in the American cities, but the central part and there are a lot of radial streets. On largest avenues in the evenings when peoples go from work, happens such.

But me is good. I work at home. And if it is necessary to go sometimes to work, I go to close by the subway.

Again winter. More precisely, early spring. Children celebrate pancake day in kindergarten. In this ancient holiday in Russia say goodbye to winter. Bonfires, bake and eat pancakes. Pancake — circle, a symbol of the sun. Russia was anciently pagan country. And when Russia adopted Christianity, many pagan holidays became Christian.

In Russia changed several times the power, ideology, and with them — and the geographic names/titles (toponimics). And this is not only Perestroyka or revolution of 1917. Repeatedly something radically changed and earlier times. Changing the names of cities, streets. Now in some cities (but not everywhere) trying to preserve the history of place names. In the photo — a street signs in Yaroslavl. On the plates:

— Chelyuskinites Square
— The former Square of the Peace (or "of the World": is Russian "World", "Peace" and "community" is same word "Mir")
— The former Cathedral Square.

 

Again cats. By itself, the photo is unremarkable. But it is made in the building of the "Almaz-Antey", which developed the Russian air defense system. S-300, S-400 and the like

In Russia after the collapse of the USSR many defense enterprises to not splurge, rented offices to rent simple commercial firms. I worked in 2001-2004 as a system administrator in the publishing house. Who rented an office in the building where they are developing new weapons

Just graffiti on the fence. It is written: "Should be good!" ("Will inevitably be good!" ? I don't know how to accurately translate — "good" not as "not bad", but as "not evil", in russian it different). On the left in the frame accidentally got the stencil from Pro-Putin enthusiasts. Where Putin "REVOLUTION" crops to "EVOLUTION". It was the 2012, then against Putin in Russia were more people than now. By the way, if anyone is interested, I can tell all the technical details about photos. For example, this photo was taken with Canon 55-250 IS lens and a Canon 550D camera. My favorite set for very many purposes, from macrophoto to photographing birds.

 

Graffiti is always interesting. It shows both passion and opinion.

 

Again macrophoto. Dragonfly. To photograph macro with 250 mm lens is very difficult. It need 1.5 m (5 feet) distance. And the depth of field is a few millimeters. Here on this photo you can see that some of the wings hit the DOF, and some don't. The main problem is that the dragonfly is very active, constantly flies. And I just don't have time to catch the focus in such conditions

May be it philosophers. May be the aliens the graffiti reads: "F*ck, Serge! This is not right planet!". Difficult to translate the meaning of the phrase exactly, but it seems that in English get the same ambiguity as in Russian. They say, it's not the planet that need it, and the one on which something is wrong
