Russia launches naval bombardment of targets in Syria

And they didn't bombed them from the Mediterranean sea, but the Caspian sea over Iran over Iraq right through the flighzones of NAVO forces who are attacking ISIS.

Russians don't seem to give a crap what NATO or anybody else thinks. You just need to get the hell out of that place or risk being killed by Russia by whatever they choose to drop or shoot when they feel like it. They already needlessly entered Turkish airspace twice, showing who is boss even there. And the response of NATO... it's just words and are unable to change the reality at hand. I'm not saying I like it. This is just what goes on.

And I never would have guessed that Russia, after all these years,... they just suddenly managed to place their nation as a hyper power ones again. With that, they did outsmart and outmuscle the US in 1 week.

Any thoughts how the power in the world shifted that fast?

From 1,000 Miles Away, Russian Navy Launches Cruise Missiles Against ISIS Targets
October 7, 2015 | Russias military campaign in Syria took a new turn Wednesday when four warships fired 26 cruise missiles at what the defense ministry said were Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL) targets including three training camps in northern Syria.

The development came amid continuing allegations that the majority of targets hit during Russias week-old airstrike campaign are associated with rebels groups other than ISIS. NATO commented Tuesday on an increase of Russian naval assets in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, but when the Russian Navy entered the campaign it did so from the south-western part of the landlocked Caspian Sea, some 1,000 miles to the north-east. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin that all 11 ISIS targets had been destroyed, and that no civilian facilities had been hit, according to a transcript released by the Kremlin.

Putin said, The fact that these strikes were carried out using high-precision weapons launched from the Caspian Seas waters, around 1,500 kilometers away, and all of the planned targets were destroyed is evidence of our defense industrys good preparation and the service personnels good professional skills. Briefing reporters, Colonel General Andrei Kartapolov of the Russian armed forces general staff said the decision to use long-range cruise missiles was made after reconnaissance identified important targets. He said they included terrorist training camps in the Aleppo, Idlib and Raqqa regions, as well as command posts and ammunition manufacturing and storage sites. Each target had been carefully analyzed, based on aerial and satellite reconnaissance, communications intercepts and data collected by Syria, Iran and Iraq.

(Russia, Iran, Iraq and the Assad regime recently established an intelligence-sharing center in Baghdad.) Kartapolov said Russias partners had given the go-ahead in advance for the use of the weaponry. He did not elaborate, but missiles traveling from the south-western Caspian Sea to Syria would overfly Iran and Iraq. The ministry said the missiles launched from the four Caspian Flotilla vessels Dagestan, Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich and Veliky Ustyug were Kalibr NK cruise missiles, accurate to within nine feet of their target. They fly at low altitudes, about 160 feet, following the terrain.

But if it is a military wing of the so-called moderate part of the opposition, then it could be useful to join efforts against a common enemy, such as ISIL, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist groups.

But in a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg Wednesday, Hollande sounded skeptical of the notion that the Western-backed FSA could work together with the Assad regime. It will not be possible to reunite the opposition I am talking about the moderate opposition, the democratic opposition with the executioner of the Syrian people, the Associated Press quoted him as saying. European nations and the U.S. have long called for Assads departure, although in recent weeks there has been a shift in language an apparent acceptance that Assad could play a role in a transitional period.

Wherever the proposal originated, Moscow appears to be exploring it. The Russian foreign ministry, authorized by President Putin, informs our partners in the countries which have contacts with the Free Army about Russias readiness to hold contacts with leaders of this structure to discuss possibility of engaging it the work to prepare conditions for launching the necessary political settlement process in Syria through talks between the Syrian government and the national opposition, Zakharova said in a statement. Whether the Assad regime would agree to such a proposal remains to be seen. The state-run SANA news agency reported the news from the Russian foreign ministry without comment.

Four Syria-bound Russian Missiles Crashed in Iran US Official
Oct 08, 2015 - Four Russian cruise missiles aimed at targets in Syria instead crashed in Iran, a US official said Thursday, declining to comment on whether there were any casualties.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the missiles landed in Iran on Wednesday, but did not provide details about where they might have landed or whether they caused any damage. Nor would the official say exactly what type of cruise missiles went down, except to say that they were among a salvo fired Wednesday from Russian warships in the Caspian.

The Russian Defense Ministry posted a graphic on its website showing 26 missiles overflying Iran and Iraq before striking inside Syria. Russia has been conducting air strikes in Syria in defense of the embattled regime of President Bashar al-Assad since September 30.

The missile launches were in support of a major ground offensive by the Syrian army on several fronts in the war-torn country's west. US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter on Thursday deplored the fact that Russian warships fired the cruise missiles "without warning."

Asked on Wednesday about the reported Putin-Soleimani meeting, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov shrugged it off by saying that there are too many statements from unidentified officials. Russian military jets launched the airstrike campaign in Syria on Sept. 30, targeting what Moscow said were positions of the Islamic State group and al-Qaida's branch. But it has also heavily hit rebels on the front-line against Syria's military, raising accusations that it is intervening to boost Assad in the civil war, now in its fifth year, after a series of losses by his military. Russia denies this, saying its campaign is solely intended to stop the spread of militants.
