Mr. Putin very badly miscalculated his odds of sweeping to victory and achieving some "Peter the Great" moment. However, as I said long ago in a closed-down threat, the scenario is Kobayashi Maru, a no-win scenario for him. The problem with Mr. Putin is that he is not yet prepared to accept that reality. Rather like his orange counterpart, he is prepared to go to perdition to try and vindicate his delusions and prevent his inevitable downfall. He will not accept that it's Kobayashi Maru. He is practically Hitler in the bunker, at least politically speaking, convincing himself that he is not losing. Unfortunately for Ukraine as well as a lot of Russians just looking to earn a paycheck that they can't earn back in the home village, it will mean plenty more dead bodies before the scenario is played out and Mr. Putin is forced to accept his defeat. It will be interesting to see how that unfolds, of course.

Of course, that's just my take on it. I don't have a cardinal in the Kremlin, so it's hard to be sure. :)

Well, just look at the power of the Left - issues like abortion, gay marriage, euthenasia, gender pronouns/toilets/sports and the like seem to have been won by the Left. WHO suppressed or sanitized these issues? If the right wing did then they have done a lousy job of it. And WHO stopped left wing media? WHO prevented conservatives from holding teaching positions on most campuses?

It looks bad for Putin - if he 'wins' he has a Vietnam style insurgency on his hands, and there's no more cell phones, airplanes or Ikea stores.
Loses and it's even worse for him.

My take on it is that you are well-informed on global issues, never condescending when I ask you questions and don't act like you're the only one on the planet that knows something. I appreciate it.

If last year I and three friends or more went out into the streets and protested against Covid restrictions, we would have been arrested under the rule of two gatherings. If I now went into the street and preached the Gospel, I would be arrested under the Public Order ‘hate speech’ Act, as what I’d be doing is offending those of other religions. What I am allowed to do is strip myself down to my underwear, hold a rainbow flag, grab my genitals and parade in the street.

A mistake we often make is looking at the world through our own rose tinted glasses and drawing comparisons based on our own world view. If true, what happened to this woman would also happen in China if she criticized the government.

What needs to be remembered is that Russia has only recently come out of decades of communism. It’s re-introduced capitalism, it’s now got free elections, but it doesn’t want our version of democracy. This woman knew what she was doing, she knew she was breaking the law and shouldn’t be surprised at what followed.

I'm talking about any narrative that opposes theirs (the left), that is what gets removed, suppressed, fact-checked & sanitised.

We have a whole forum here complaining about our political system and whether from left or right, the consequences. We’ve got sporadic outbreaks of terrorism, violence is off the scale, our prisons are bursting at the seams, drug epidemics, pedophile gangs … And we’re cheering on our ‘freedoms’ and sticking our tongue out at others?

If we had to design a society from scratch, who on earth would want what we’ve got? The whole world outside the west is shunning us. Even the Russians who lived under decades of communist repression are keeping us at arms-length and would probably vote communism back in to stop their society becoming like ours.

We abandoned previous traditional values and normalized a generation of freaks and crazies trying to build an Alice in Wonderland utopia and looking at the results, we shouldn’t really be criticizing others.

I think you are confused or you don’t live in the US. In the US you can preach Gospel, you can even preach hate, IT IS LEGAL HERE:

What needs to be remembered that Russia is country with tradition or government persecution of people who don’t believe in government propaganda. It was during tsars, during communism and now during Putin. People in Russia have tradition of fear of government and complicity. The Russian ‘soul’ is the best described in Chekhov story ‘Chameleon’.
What we need also remember that Russia was on a way to democracy and freedom, but Putin stopped it by ordering of poising, killing and jailing opposition.
Gary Casparov described it in his book ‘Winter is coming’.

Yes, we are not a perfect country, we made a lot of mistake, many Americans became gullible who blindly follow a leader without caring where he is leading us, but don't forget we still have a Soft Power.

"we shouldn’t really be criticizing others" - I hope you are joking. Every country has a right to criticize us and we have a right to criticize others, unless you want to follow Russian script - nobody has a right to criticize Russia (under penalty of law) and Russia has a right to criticize and invade others.

Sorry but I think you have lost me. I know there is censorship of sorts with media, but only in the fact that a media corp like CNN solely focussed upon Trumps failures, and Fox focussed upon his successes. But unless it's some state security issue, it's in the public domain in Western societies.

I don’t live in the US, I live in the UK and I’m writing from a UK perspective. Not everyone has US laws.

Russia was plundered to the hilt when Yeltsin opened the floodgates to the west in the 90’s. Putin stopped it and sent the Wall Street capitalists packing.

The Russian oligarchs who joined in can still be seen wandering around the world looking for somewhere to stash their loot. Yes, the type of democracy we have in the west is still lacking in Russia, but they’re holding on to their traditions and values for dear life. They don’t want our form of democracy and we shouldn’t be trying to force it on them. We’ve been trying to do that in other parts of the world for the past two decades and it doesn’t work.

The US swopped the soft power of persuasion for military might decades ago.

Given our recent record we also shouldn’t be accusing others of attacking anyone.

I think US still has a lot of Soft Power, even after we used the military might not always proper way.

"Given our recent record we also shouldn’t be accusing others" - who are "we"? We can criticize our government and foreign governments too.
In the US and in other Western countries we have a right to criticize our government, people in Russia don't have this right.

According to sources I read, in Russia something different happened: Yeltsin opened Russia to Western ideas of democracy and free market. Russian elite, supported by Putin used it to a massive theft of public property. According to many sources today Putin is the wealthiest man in the world - here (according to investigation done on Navalny - poisoned and jailed by Putin) one of the Putin's property:

After the mass theft, Putin (Putin and not Russian people) decided to remove all criticism of his regime. Opposition leaders and journalist we killed, poisoned and jailed, independent newspapers and TV stations we closed and the only media which allow to function we pro Putin propaganda machines. Today even calling Russian invasion - invasion - is punishable up to 15 years of jail. Does Russian people hold on to this laws dear life?

Putin came after Yeltsin. He’s the one who stopped it, not carried it on. Even to this day the 90's under Yeltsin are called 'The bad years.' The US never forgave Putin for kicking out Wall Street.

Re: The video. “Does Russian president own a giant $1bn mansion …” The clue is in the word “does.” It’s a question. “According to …” I don’t know if he does or not and neither it seems does anyone else. If they did they’d be able to confirm it and not have to speculate.

Noted, that these media groups have these characteristics.

An example of what I mean is, a leftist narrative is created, and that narrative gets argued with the right, then alt news gets involved furthering the rights argument. This is where the fact-checking, removal, suppression etc occurs.

So how did the Left win the gay marriage issue? And the trans issues? These debates have been thoroughly won that to even try to argue against them is to have your character called into question.

Soros. Pays the media to push an agenda and narrative. He's also lining the lawmaker's pockets with money.

    Via biased media.
