surprise, surprise http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-3460_162-57382599/santorum-homophobic-former-senator-says/
Senator Simpson has no idea what the definition of "homophobic" is. A phobia is an irrational fear of something. Santorum's anti-gay persuasion - whether it is right or wrong - does not automatically make him homophobic.
Liberals get fear mixed up with hate when they use the word 'homophobic'. I can't imagine someone who is afraid of gays, for crying out loud. And I don't think that more .1% of anti-gay people actually HATE gays. They just think that homosexual behavior is anti-natural and stupid. And of course, some of them think that guys will go to hell. Which is stupid in itself, but not hateful.
Pretty soon libs are gonna run thru all these negative names they give conservatives. and it's gonna mean not a darn thing.
Right. It really IS possible to disagree with somebody - even somebody's lifestyle - without being hateful to or about them. In my profession I have had to regularly, and bluntly, confront people about their self-destructive lifestyle choices. Does that automatically mean I hate them? Of course not!
I would rather just say 77 members of congress support Romney while 3 support Santorum.. For a number of reasons.
It already doesn't mean anything...remember, we are all racists according to them. All of us because we don't like Obama. Well I also don't like my first wife who is white. Now am I a racist woman hater?
The man is so afraid of gays that he thinks allowing gay people to get married threatens his own marriage. That's obviously homophobia.
Didn't Alan Simpson vote FOR the Defense of Marriage Act? Now HE is calling Santorum a homophobe? What gives with that?
I am unsure of his voting record in that matter, but why would that be important? In what way would Simpson's potential hypocrisy make Santorum less homophobic for his fearful reaction to homosexuals?
First of all, it destroys his credibility. That said, did you actually read that article? Simpson sounded like an intoxicated buffoon. A good share of what he said simply made no sense. And honestly, I don't think he has ANY idea what he's talking about, when he's throwing around words like Homophobe. Now... Santorum may very well be a homophobe. I don't know. I've not paid a great deal of attention to him. My point is that people need to quit throwing around the word HOMOPHOBE so stupidly - particularly people who obviously don't know what it means.
Attacking another's credibility does not diminish their argument, except in the eyes of the ignorant. It is another logical fallacy, in fact. It distracts from the actual issue under consideration. Where in my responses have I cited Simson's statements, or even made reference to them? My argument for Santorum's homophobia comes entirely from his proudly stated public positions. You can go on his own campaign website (indeed, I encourage you to google 'Santorum') and find the admission. He doesn't describe it as homophobia, of course, but anyone who feels that marriages are threatened by letting gay people do it too is clearly being irrationally fearful of gay people. Hence homophobia.
So you've veered off from the OP, and the linked article, and started a discussion with yourself. Interesting.
