Nobody has said that invading a building destroys democracy. I'm not sure if it's deliberate or not, but all the things that have been happening in the courtrooms since (and before) that riot very much are being put in place to destroy democracy and that's not from Democrats.

Trump also rolled back many of our environmental policies and Rs have already announced that Social Security and Medicare are on the chopping block (interspersed with false statements they won't really do that). They said the same thing about R v. W and now little girls are pregnant with their rapist's (usually family) baby with no options.

Most likely, none of the above concerns you, but it very much concerns those of us with daughters or granddaughters, nieces, female friends and co-workers. Anyone that thinks it's okay for the government to make someone else's private health decisions is not the least bit interested in anything close to democracy.

The whole world is watching as the backbone of our country went back on their answers to R v. W and the spouse of a SCOTUS justice was involved in an insurrection to block a legal and legitimate certification of our President-elect. Again, there's nothing close to "law and order" when someone with privilege can stomp on the very foundation on which this country was founded.

What's ironic to me, is that they also accused blacks of making them feel 'personally responsible' for slavery and segregation, when systemic racism does exactly the opposite. It does not require anyone be the 'bigot' who denies the black man a loan, or a job, or a mortgage. If it is buried in a system created 40 years ago, none of us is nessicarily ( I HATE spelling that word) guilty of being a bigot. We are all responsible, however for working to replace the corroded parts in the system, with newer model parts, and yes looking to retool the assembly of the system so that the same corrosion does not come back.

I have a very simple question for you. From everything we have seen so far do you still deny Trump was attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election?

 

I understand both sides of that argument because outside tv or the internet, some white people can go their whole lives never seeing or interacting with a person of color. They aren't aware they have privilege because it's always been there. In order to examine that, they have to hear some things that are painful, albeit true. So, it's easier to push it away and say "It's not my fault" or "racism doesn't exist" because examining the truth is too painful.

Exactly. For many of them, racism "looks like" the KKK or segregated schools and water fountains, the "N" word or public lynching. So, they create this "safe space" in their minds that they *can't* be bigots because they haven't done those aforementioned things to a person of color or disable person or Jewish people of disabled people. This is the mother of "whataboutism".

Of course. It's our duty to work on recalibrating these disparities. Our ancestors did it for us and we need to do it for those that will follow us. The only place where we are getting stuck is with people that don't or won't understand why that's important for the longevity of our country.

It's like the old adage, to a man "Do you want to be right OR do you want to stay married?".

This midterm it's "Do you want democracy or MAGA Madness leading to the destruction of our country and Constitution?"

 

It should not last long............unless the red wave extremists starts to make major changes to the constitution. They will not let go of power that easily anymore.....The more election deniers that get elected........the more tangible risk exists to Democracy. the Maga gang has already given too much power to one man.
Democracy is certainly on the ballot. It might be more abstract than the economy...........
