IMO all the union members and retirees in Detroit were screwed by their union leaders. They were herded into strikes and generous contracts by their crooked union bosses. Now they are finding out that the union and aided by democrats have caused Detroit to go totally broke.

The dirty secret that union bosses dont want their members to know is that big raises from union contracts actually dont pay out in the end. A strike for more money stops the company pay check while on strike. Then the pay raise they get is only temporary since it is followed by an increase in all prices. Union strikes and raises in the end only result in INFLATION!!!!!

    Argue with these facts libs!!!!

But I heard the unions built the middle class. I don't get why the cities they are strong in have the greatest wealth disparities and highest crime, greatest poverty, worst schools, declining populations etc...

We need laws in place that if a city goes bankrupt, their workers pensions are honored 1st and ahead of paying money owed to private corporations, those private corporations should NOT GET PAID, to honor cotracts with the workers.

I must have missed the headlines.

Was it unions who created planned obsolescence?
Was it unions who gave us the Pacer, the Pinto, the Concord, and the Corvair?
Was it unions who designed a car you have to pull the engine to change the plugs?

I also missed the part where unions held guns to management's head, kidnapped their children, and overfed their cats to force contracts.

Perhaps you could fill me in on these events the MSM "forgot" to cover.

But I'd take the big money and benefits on the job for 30 years, even if it crashed at the end, rather than just live poor that entire time. FUKK THE CITY, I'd rather get MINE and bankrupt the company!

The unions killed Flint. They never went there again after the first UAW strike killed Packard and almost killed GM.

We still add auto jobs and build factories. In right to work states. Far from the grasp of the unions. Why do you think that is?

Unions suck a business dry like a leach. First no money for capital improvements, then they get rid of the profits altogether then the company dieds. Ask hostess, Delphi brakes etc..

I did. It sucks. Basically "poor people are poor because the rich don't pay enough taxes. If they paid more taxes everyone would be better off because corrupt bought officials will spend it wisely. "

I know the lefty occupy economics. What a waste of an hour.

Detroit is broke because Detroit was (is) a one trick pony (the car industry) and eventually couldn't compete in a global market with Japanese manufacturers.

So... The public sectors unions that bankrupted the city should get paid first before the people who bought city bonds to help finance the city? That seems unfair.

What does this have to do with bleeding a company or a town dry to make the union racket wealthy?

I didn't say to do that. In any case, make it more 'fair' than it is. How can stark injustice be the right way?

Teachers unions are I guess. What is the point you are trying to make? Auto companies do their est to get away drone leaching unions. The UAW doesn't start its own business because it wil have no one to leach from.

LOL! Whatever 'label' you want; they don't really fit, but if it makes you happy to keep trying, so be it.

I'm for all the traditional American values... but I KNOW that people cannot maintain a decent and prosperous society without limits.

Greedy, rigged game, need to give more power to government so they can rig it right this time. Repeat until full on commie. That is the plan right?

Yep. We need the controls, and we need to tweak them as needed.

We need "government". Welcome to reality.

But the poorest states with the worst education systems are "Right to Work" states, where no one is forced to join a union....

It's no secret a few paychecks are lost in strikes, but that is why unions have strike funds so their members don't suffer. Union strikes don't cause inflation, nor can you provide proof a union getting a worker raise causes inflation. If inflation is bad you should have your wages cut in half.

Having worked 'with' (cough, hack) unions for 30 yrs, where they were once needed they have become the very thing they march against---large, conglomerates that bully employees!

They arent needed in this global economy as they make the US non-competitive. So the, jobs are lost or sent overseas, and all the power of the union is but the vanity of some rich union bureaucrats.

Yep, that is capitalism for you. The reason workers have jobs and corporations exist and people buy stocks,...... is to make as much money as they can. Those greedy bastoids!!
