Semi-auto rifle without barrel shroud/hand-guard?

    does such a thing exist?

    seems like every semi-auto rifle has a barrel shroud/hand guard....other than ones that shoot .22LR

    what are you talking about? the sporting BAR and remington 740 series don't have barrel shrouds, and many of the 9mm auto carbines have no such shroud.
