And yet end it they did.
Is the big picture of the history of human slavery not important?

How about let's talk about how after America freed the slaves, Americans went on to fight enslavers around the world.

    "the shores of Tripoli"

That refers to The Barbary Wars

I've already been over that, and your question conveniently ignores the fact that Africans enslaved Africans before they even left Africa's shores.

Why did they do that? Could it be that they weren't innocent little angels themselves? Could it be that slavery existed in Africa before European slavers arrived to purchase African slaves from African slavers?

And Africans were supposed to be innocent little angels who were untainted by the sins committed by civilized, God fearin folks.

What an incredible revelation! How did you single-handedly come upon this previously hidden knowledge?

Yes, Americans did fight other Americans to end slavery in America, Captain Obvious.

Did Africans fight other Africans to end slavery in Africa? Oh, that's right - unlike America, slavery still exists in some parts of Africa.

You're the one who is running from history, not me. It's a stone cold hard fact that slavery would not have been abolished in 1865 were it not for the Union soldiers who fought and died in Hell holes like the Wilderness and Cold Harbor.

Which raises the question: Where are your reparations to their families?

Africans enslaving Europeans and Americans, not just other Africans?

    Who woulda thunk it?!

I wonder if that inconvenient Historical Fun Fact made it into Timmah Kaine's speech?

    I bet a dollah it didn't...

LOL.. Tim isn 't the brightest bulb... Even in red lipstick... And that's why we love him so. The gift that keeps giving. Democrats think that no one should be able to remember all their horrific past. It's just not fair, you know.. to be burdened so with all of your past bad deeds... Democrats are losing here.

Hmm... but we did... Slavey was a permissive aspect of colonialism. Try cracking a book....

Well, that didn't make it into Howard Zinn's Marxist propaganda that is peddled as "History" in our schools, so they wouldn't know about that or the Forefathers who opposed slavery or freed their slaves after their country became independent.

America is just an evil racist place. It makes you wonder why people from all around the world keep flocking to our evil racist shores...

They don't want us to observe their present failures, either.

Why is there so much systematic racism in Democrat-run cities?

Why do so many Black mayors, city council members and police chiefs systematically oppress and discriminate against their Black brothers and sisters?

Or is it that Democrats are trying to obscure the abject failures of their policies and governance by blowing the smoke of "systematic racism" in everyone's eyes?

Upheld in British courts, if my memory serves me correctly.

Did Timmah give his audience a fine legal dissertation on the difference between British common law and American constitutional law and how the former enabled slavery to exist in Britain's colonies in North America and elsewhere without codifying it in writing?

Maybe I'm wrong, but somehow I doubt it...

He actually has a valid point, Mr. Spelling/Typing Nazi, particularly in regard to the British Empire. I alluded to this in Post #61, but don't let me get between you and your rebuttal. The floor is all yours...

A half Black Dutch trader from the Caribbean brought two slaves to Manhattan Island in October of 1613.

Didn't fit the narrative too well.

After the war, black folks went from being legally slaves to being treated no better than slaves.

Probably the Indians, they had slaves before we set foot in this country.

So we should blame the drug users and not the cartels and street dealers?

Therein lies the problem. You want to stay obsessively, narrowly, laser beam focused on one small sliver of the long, long history of human slavery, while pretending like it's somehow uniquely heinous, unprecedented and evil.

Why? What's the agenda behind that?

Do you demand instant perfection in all things, or just the one small sliver of the long, long history of human slavery you want to stay obsessively, narrowly, laser beam focused upon?

So what do you want us to do about it now? All you guys should do is keep erasing history and once you erase the part about slavery then everything should be ok.

According to the Jewish Babylonian Talmud, each Jew will get 2,800 Gentile slaves in the afterlife. Aren't you thrilled that you will be a slave forever and you won't even have to be black!?

Slavery has been practiced for at least 5,500 years. Ancient Egypt, Greece and in Sumer Mesopotamia around 3,500BC. Certainly the U.S. didn't create it. Slavery has been a long and time honored tradition until the 1800's. The last two countries to make slavery a crime was Niger in 2003 and Mauritania in 2007. As far as abolishing slavery, the U.S. timeline wise was in the middle of the pact of countries of the world when we abolished slavery.

The big difference between the U.S. and other countries was it took a war to abolish slavery here. Although at the beginning of the civil war it was about keeping the Union united, not slavery. Slavery was the main cause of the civil war but as Lincoln was quoted, "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that,"

    22 August 1862.

That's what you told us, but what does that have to do with the black folks in America.

So that justifies slavery in America, what does that have to do with the way good God fearin whites treated black folks in America.

    You called them savages, remember.

Stop trying to say that whites fought to free the slaves when they were fighting other folks who didn't want to free them. By the way those whites they were fighting against have statues and monuments honoring them today.

I don't know you will have to take that up with somebody in Africa, I live in America Jack.

    What am I running from?
How does that change anything I said?

Did the Japanese Gov't pay the reparations for Japanese-Americans that were put in interment camps?

Did the Native Americans pay for the reparations that were given to Native Americans?

Did Jewish people pay for reparations that were given to Jewish folks for the Holocaust?
