Shapiro Gets Into Tense Back-and-Forth With Pro-Choice Student, Demands She Explain When Life Begins

Conservative personality Ben Shapiro quarreled with a pro-choice student Monday during a question and answer session following his speech at Salisbury University in Maryland.

“You don’t get to kill things just because it’s in your uterus,” Shapiro told the student during a back-and-forth.

“It’s my body. How about you stay out of it?” the student replied.

“I don’t care about your appendix,” Shapiro quipped, referencing the student’s earlier argument. “I don’t even care about your uterus. I care about what’s in it.”

“And I can take out my appendix if I don’t want it. So why can’t I take out other parts of my body?” the student asked.

“Because they are not independent living human beings,” Shapiro fired back.

The student continued to engage in a debate, arguing the fetus is merely a “bundle of cells.”

“At what point does that bundle of cells become a human being in your judgement?” Shapiro asked her.

    “Um—,” the student said.

    “No really,” Shapiro interjected.

“No, I just need to calm down for a second,” the student said.

After some silence, Shapiro argued “that is the relevant question.”

“If your argument is it’s a bundle of cells then the question becomes when it’s not a bundle of cells,” the conservative personality noted.

The student said that she didn’t believe in late-term abortion unless it was a threat to the mother’s health. Shapiro said he agreed in an exception if the mother’s life was in danger.

    Another student chimed in.

“The concept of body autonomy means that I don’t have to give up any part of my body unless I say so,” she said.

“The baby is not part of your body,” Shapiro quipped.

Shapiro was speaking on the campus at an event sponsored in part by the conservative Young America’s Foundation. The conservative writer and radio host was recently interrupted during a speech at California State University, Los Angeles, when protesters pulled the fire alarm in the auditorium.

So why can pro choicers never answer when does a baby become a living being? Because they know if there was a legal time frame, then the fetuses will be considered a person and the women will no longer have a say in whether to get a abortion or not.

These women seem to be under the impression that since the fetus is growing in their wombs then they are apart of their bodies and they get to decide what to do with the fetus when in fact, just like Shapiro says, they are not apart of their bodies and IMO the women are just mere incubation vessels to supply nutrients to the fetus while is grows.

Women are kind of like a McDonalds for the fetus in my view and they should not have a say when a new life grows in them since their only really connect to the fetus by a umbilical cord. If they feel since the fetus is their property because is a part of their bodies, then why not men, the fetus has also half of the fathers DNA so in essence, the fetus is a part of their bodies as well, so should the men get a say in whether or not a women can get a abortion with their half?

    Now, ask Ben Shapiro...

"If abortion is "murder" as you say...and you support the death penalty for murderers....would you execute a woman who self-induced an abortion at 5 weeks? Yes or No? and if No...why not?"

and watch him dodge, deflect, and show that even HE doesn't believe HIS own b.s....like most "pro-lifers".

Good for the student, how dare anyone tell anyone else what to do with their body. Women are not slaves to fetuses, they are the higher life form. I don't see conservatives going around caring about children who are already born...stay out of peoples personal medical decisions.

Well it would be very difficult to prove intent, an easy defense could be she was afraid and did it in a moment of panic. So the prosecutor would be better served by charging some form of Manslaughter.

The woman's INTENT was obviously to destroy the embryo and remove it from her body.

And say, she took several days to obtain RU-486...how could she claim "fear" or "panic"?

Now...given that....are you saying it was "not murder"?

The fetus is a life the minute is has a heart beat and begins to move, I'm sure its different for each pregnancy but once examined and if the fetus has a heart beat and moving, abortion is no longer legal and if a women get one then she is no different than any other murderer and should be put in jail for life or executed if the state allows. Only exception to abortion is when the woman's life is in danger. In the case of incest or rape, abortion should only be legal up until the time of a heart beat. It sounds extreme but a fetus with a heart beat is not their property.

Women consider the fetus their property, so who is the slave to who now?

A fetus is theirs, it grows inside of them and can only survive in them. How you could think otherwise it's beyond me, and very scientifically illiterate.

It is sad we even have to have such discussions. It is tragic these religious radicals are allowed to dictate the actions of the rest of the population. Life is not an event, it is a process. You cannot pinpoint the moment it begins, no more than you can pinpoint the exact point where white fades into gray. Life does not begin at conception, nor does it begin at birth.

As a strictly legal matter, it is sufficient to define the start of life at birth. This doesn't mean we should encourage abortions in the last trimester, but this is a matter of public policy and has nothing to do with murder.

Women consider their body to be their property. They have a right to deny its use to another person.

now let me get this straight. so it is compassion to let a woman slaughter an innocent life she has chosen to harbor within her own body, but it is hypocrisy or worse not to want to execute her for it? you certainly have a twisted notion of justice.

    1. Yes, it IS legal...currently...."pro-lifers" have failed to change that in 43 years.

    2. So your answer is "Yes...unless her life was in danger...you'd EXECUTE a woman who self-induced an abortion, if abortion was made illegal"?

(Don't skip #2 and try to keep talking about #1...it's the eventual pattern of male "pro-lifers" that they either show they don't believe their own rhetoric...or they want a totalitarian police state, a Taliban state, aimed at women....seen it a dozen times on the Abortion Forum.)

    - - - Updated - - -

Let me get YOU straight....answer the question-

If abortion were illegal, would you want a woman who self-induces an abortion to be tried and executed for murder?

    yes...or no?

If Ben Shapiro was a real conservative who believed in limited government and individual freedom then he wouldn't be telling other people what they can and can't do with their bodies.

When it comes to individual freedom, there is waaaaaaay too much inconsistency on both sides of the aisle...

Then you agree that it's OK to hunt Dolphins and Baby Seals, right? After all, we are the higher life form.

If/when it becomes possible to genetically test for sexual preference, will it be OK to abort your child because they test positive for homosexuality? What if a woman has an interracial encounter and decides she does not want to have the child because now she's come to hate the race of the male who fathered the child? Is it OK to kill the child because you're a racist?

No because those animals are already born. By higher life form I mean a woman is a human, a fetus is not. A fetus is not human until it's born. You have every right to believe what you want and live how you want, but you cannot force your beliefs on others.

    1. Do you support the death penalty for those convicted of murder? Yes or No?

    2. If abortion were made illegal, is a woman self-inducing an abortion, committing a murder? Yes or No?

To not know that life begins at conception is to be willfully ignorant. And all deductions made from that ignorance become ignorant as well.

Yes, life is a process, and the process of one's life begins at conception. To willfully terminate that process, at any stage of its development, is to willfully terminate a human life. That is not a statement of religious radicalism, that is a statement of simple truth.

LOL - I haven't heard that one before.

Unfortunately, Republicans want to control what goes on inside a woman's uterus and Democrats want to control everything outside of it...;)

i just love the infantile black and white manner in which you approach the subject and, though i expect the last thing you really want is a rational response, i'll give you an answer.

though i'm not necessarily against capital punishment, i've always believed it to be the court of last resort and should be used only if no other response is viable. that being said, the slaughter of innocents through abortion should be considered separately from all other sorts of homicide. the entire subject is fraught with emotion, fear and self-recrimination already and has little in common with tawdry, run-of-the-mill murders. should it be punished? of course, but not as a murder for profit or hatred may be punished. it is a case where justice must be tempered with mercy for those who believed they had no other way. there should be a certain amount of pity for those who have been convinced that the life they carry is none of their responsibility and is of little or no importance. incarceration? probably, but with a measured dose of education and public service. sterilization? possibly, but only for those who are repeat offenders or those who simply cannot get it through their heads that this is not just biological waste they are disposing of, but a life.

more important than punishment is education, especially for the society at large. for decades we have been inundated with the notion that abortion is some magical instance in which the taking of another life is perfectly acceptable. i've even heard those who believe that abortion is a social good and that it should be encouraged. what sort of animal advocates for the slaughter of the most innocent of human beings? what sort of sub-human society considers something as barbaric as ripping a child from its mothers womb, even with her consent, to be simply business as usual? an abortion is a tragedy, but we are constantly told that it is no more important than excising a tumor or ridding one's self of a parasite. we weep and riot when some miscreant is killed when assaulting a passer-by, but yawn and go about our lives when faced with well over a million children aborted each year. we have redefined human life to suit our own baser needs and, in doing so, have redefined our humanity into some baser form. this is what must stop. this is not progress, it is a self-centered march toward a crude and barbaric oblivion.
