:shocked:I already have a stomach bug. Did you really have to...?

Is it an animal or not?

It's utterly barbaric to still be killing and eating living things and is long past time we had a less inhumane system. It's also very cumbersome, expensive work raising animals to eat. Don't tell me everything we eat at the moment is delicately produced. The mad cow episode demonstrated farmers put every kind of crap into animal feed regardless of human health and hygiene.

I expect the sheet meat system would relieve world hunger. It would have to be very heavily monitored. Look at what the guy said, you can exchange this type of fatty acid for that and "improve" it...that way could lie disaster. How often do you see science change tack on what is good for us? Every other day...

Global corp will love it, if it's cost effective. Another way to control people and profit.

Then the next big thing in war will be fighting for control of sheet meat production.

Anyway, yes, I suppose eventually if it tastes good I might eat it. But I bet it would taste like anything but meat.

Depending on the dressing, who knows, I might even be tempted to eat you.

Why not? We'll never see it though because the ranching and farming lobbies occupy half of K Street. And I hear that the scientists are having problems getting the cultured stuff to taste like meat.

I suppose I'd try it, but I couldn't see myself buying it. I split a cow every year with my parents, and fill two deer tags. That's more than enough meat to last my family a year.

By the term "cultured meat," does this mean the cows attend symphony orchestra concerts, ballet and opera; read Tolstoy and Shakespeare, visit art galleries?

I'm all for that, we need more cultured cows...right now they just stand around, eat grass and poop. A little culture never hurt anyone.

most likely, it will be not find a market as a "meat substitute" due to taste and texture. It might find a market as a wholly new form of food, with its own culinary uses. With this nutrient control, it could form a new and healthier protein source.

what's wrong with lean finely textured ground beef? it's more beefy than the beef it was added to....it was just recouped from trimmings and citric acid (or ammonia gas when it was just used in pet food) pumped thru it to make sure it didn't have any stray pathogens in it. it wasn't just leaner, and more meaty, it was SAFER too.

if you spice it up, i can't imagine it tasting like anything else than what you spiced it up like. pastrami or corned beef should turn out fine and as long as you can find a grain to cut across. i don't think anyone could tell the difference?

I like meat that is meat, so it naturally tastes like and looks like what it is, meat.

Eating is one of the pleasures in life that cannot be duplicated with plastic substitutes, pills, or crap that comes in a tube.

Are you people on the list to get one of them computerized robotic sex dolls too? Push the mouse away and step away from the monitor. Obviously you need to go out side and reintroduce yourself to, you know, living life, outside of a man made bubble.

Fake fish meat? UGH......However, grow some beef, grow some beef fat, grind it up into hamburger and I'll put one on the grill.
