Prompted by this ongoing 4 years later crusade by the Biden administration it begs the title question.

Should these persons be in jail and paying tens of thousands in fines and have criminal records?
    https://twitter.com/i/status/1725831246603800650

These were all ESCORTED in by the Capitol police. They were all peaceful and left after their 10 minute walkthroughs.

BTW this video is among the hundreds of hours Pelosi suppressed and tried to prevent from being released to the public SOTH Johnson having to sue to get it released before it could be destroyed.

Here is what just one has faced.

D.C. Jury Convicts Great-Grandma For Walking Around The Capitol For 10 Minutes On Jan. 6

After being strung up on charges by President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ), a 71-year-old great-grandmother may be thrown in jail because she walked around the Capitol for a few minutes on Jan. 6, 2021.

Rebecca Lavrenz was convicted on four counts Thursday after just three days of jury deliberation for entering the Capitol on J6. Lavrenz entered the building through an open door around 2:43 p.m., according to the official statement of facts.

Lavrenz told The American Spectator‘s Jack Cashill that she “felt that if those doors [on the east side of the building] opened I was supposed to go through.”

Lavrenz exited the Capitol around 2:53 p.m., just 10 minutes after entering, having briefly spoken to at least one Capitol Police Officer before leaving, according to the statement of facts...
    https://thefederalist.com/2024/04/0...g-around-the-capitol-for-10-minutes-on-jan-6/

She faces 10 months un prison and $200,000 fine her own legal cost in top of that.

Is this REALLY the proper response? Have we ever treated the peaceful protestors at the Capitol with such heavy handed retributions? Isn't it time to move on? I believe all the violent rioters have been prosecuted or copped their pleas.

Jury trials, found guilty, of course they should.

Also remember most of us saw the videos and live tv coverage.

Don't hide behind a DC prosecutor and a DC jury. Do YOU believe they should be in jail for merely entering the open doors under escort and walking through fir 10 minutes in a totally peaceful manner? If so why? Is this how justice should be applied.

You did not see these videos and Pelosi hid them and then tried to destroy them.

Prove this video was shown to the jury. Pelosi had it withheld from dsclosure and they they tried to destroy the evidence.

The more they are punished, the more winning for Trump. The way they are torturing these PROTESTORS (just for daring to protest while being republican) is on view for the whole world to see. They can all witness the 1984 level skum the leftist political machine has become and what do you need when that happens?
    A SAVIOR!
These geniuses are practically handing the election to trump and OH HOW I LOVE seeing dumb leftist ideas blow up in their smug little faces. Good times!

she chose to take it to trial vs a plea bargain, has she been remorseful?

if she shows remorse during sentencing, I would give her less than a year, no remorse, then the max of one year is ok with me

it's really in her hands now

So the videos and pictures that we've all seen of people smashing in windows and doors and forcing their way into the Capitol were fake? Huh...who knew ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You know what's worse than breaking windows? BURNING THE WHOLE DAMN BUILDING! Windows can be fixed easily. Extreme fire damage cannot. You want us to sit here and cry over broken windows when those loser Antifa/BLM rioters brought down entire buildings and instead of punishment they get kamala dollars? Give me a break! Most people will never take J6 serious. (even the ones that pretend to don't believe it)
    GET REAL!

Nice strawman. I never said you or anyone else should "cry over broken windows". But feel free to carry on with more strawman arguments. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Where did you get the idea those are the videos and persons of whom I am talking about when it is perfectly clear otherwise?

    Deal with the topic.

And yet if you rioted and burned down buildings and looted stores during the summer of 2020, nothing happened to the vast majority of those people.

If you tried to set fire to a Federal courthouse in Seattle, nothing happened to you.

Dare I use the word "political prisoners" to describe most of the people who have been arrested for January 6?

Very few of the 2020 rioters were arrested.

One of the few was down here in Tampa. A guy was shown on video tape throwing a firebomb through the window of a building.

Down here there were consequences for arson and looting. In the "woke states" you go away with it. The arsonists disappeared when it became obvious that they were going to be prosecuted for their wrong doing. In the "progressive states," law enforcement was cool with it. They were described as "peaceful protests" on CNN while the buildings were burning behind the "peaceful demonstrators." Talk about gas lighting!

    AbsaByGodLutely!!!!!!

There needs to be a loud and clear message that you can NOT attack the United States under any circumstance, no matter who you are or for what reason ... WITHOUT ... incurring a serious penalty of both freedom and treasure. That message needs to be conveyed to BOTH the perpetrator AND anyone that may have a similar idea in the future.

The most sever punishment allowed by law is NONE too good for them.

Most of those were RW tRaitor tRump supporters.

    You (me - noone)
was the rioting in 2020 done by right wing radicals or blm demonstrators

    Copilot
The protests and riots in 2020 were a complex event with participation from various groups and individuals. It’s important to note that the majority of the protests were peaceful12.

Regarding your question, here’s what I found:

It’s crucial to remember that the actions of a few do not represent the beliefs and behaviors of all members of these groups. The situation was highly complex and involved a wide range of individuals with different motivations.

not to mention the vast majority of the 200 plus people arrested in Washington DC on Trump's inauguration Day for rioting.... Were released with zero consequences.

As blue as the leadership of Tampa is, I'm surprised the guy got any punishment to speak of.

Some examples from Aug 30, 2021 article...

Just this month, a man was sentenced to four years behind bars and ordered to pay what his attorney said is likely to exceed $1.5 million in restitution after pleading guilty to inciting a riot last spring in Champaign, Illinois.
Shamar Betts, who was 19 at the time, posted a flyer on Facebook on May 31, 2020, that said “RIOT @ MarketPlace Mall” at 3 p.m. and instructed people to bring “friends & family, posters, bricks, bookbags etc.” He participated in the looting, went live on Facebook during the riot and bragged about starting it, authorities said. More than 70 stores were looted, and the riot caused $1.8 million in damage, prosecutors said.
Betts’ lawyer, Elisabeth Pollock, said Betts was frustrated about police brutality across the U.S., had lost his job because of the coronavirus outbreak and never intended to hurt anyone. Prosecutors pushed for the maximum punishment of five years in prison and the maximum restitution amount for Betts, who had no criminal history, she said.

In another case this month, an Illinois man was sentenced to nearly nine years behind bars for lighting a Minneapolis cellphone store on fire in June 2020. A Charleston, South Carolina, man who livestreamed himself looting a store downtown was sentenced to two years in prison.

Meanwhile, in Utah this month, a federal judge sentenced 25-year-old Lateesha Richards to nearly two years in prison for tossing a pair of basketball shorts onto an overturned, burning patrol car and hurling a baseball bat toward police officers during a May 2020 protest in Salt Lake City. There’s no evidence that the bat struck anybody.
Richards initially was charged with an arson count that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, but she avoided that possibility with a deal under which she pleaded to a charge of civil disorder.
The judge said Richards’ actions were dangerous and put hundreds of peaceful protesters in harm’s way. Richards didn’t start the fire that engulfed the police vehicle, but she did “add fuel to the flames,” he added.

On the same day in May, Kelsey Donnel Jackson traveled to downtown Charleston, South Carolina, with a cousin to join a protest over Floyd’s killing. Hours later, as other protesters began flipping tables and taunting police officers, Jackson lighted a shirt on fire and tossed it onto the trunk of a vandalized police car.
Jackson also vandalized businesses and public property, assaulted two people and streamed a video of himself on Facebook Live in which he held a handgun and made threatening statements about police, according to prosecutors.
He was sentenced this summer to two years in prison after pleading guilty to maliciously damaging a police vehicle with fire.

And deservedly so I might add.
