Slow, Slow And Slower...

It seemed to get faster but again slowed to less than a crawl. I just gave up Thursday. Then I did a little fri. but it was so slow that I was ready to slap in a mag of .226 and light up the tower. Then this I tried from 11:30 fri night to a couple of hours ago to get on PC with no success. So I had fantasy of forgetting about using a banana mag of AP .223 from my AR 15 bushmaster on the computer to using some high explosive ....anyway while trying to log on I joined two more forums and posted three or four times. Not only did I join, I re-registered on one and began posting there. Two had a the same server or what ever you call it as this one, both were very fast. The third was a different layout and was even faster. BTW I have tried to use different browsers with no change.

The last straw.

I finally got on here and posted a reply I had originally written yesterday because I couldn't post for the site being so (*)(*)(*)(*) slow. Its slower and worse than ever personally I dont think anything is being done to fix it.

during the graveyard hours this morning it was slow which is unnatural because its off peak time when everyones sleeping for work the next morning.

hope it does not continue like that, cannot come on during peak hours when everyones at work because im asleep.

 

Hopefully members have noticed the site going down for maitenance recently. The site owner is making numerous changes to try and fix the problems we've encountered.

Noticed? Ha ha...Do I notice when I am run over by a truck? Anyway I hope the problems are now fixed after slow death, crash and death of PF. I hope it is one Zombie that rises from the dead for good. (and it comes back as flash)...

ps I hope that a new IT guy was hired for this fix. The others were like when I take my old beloved basset to the vet and two days later he is licking his butt hole again, I go back to the same vet (because he is a personal friend like PF) but the jerk still charges me 60 bucks! I did that for three years, but last week I took Bogie Wuggs to another vet, guess what? He aint licking his butt which makes both of us happy.

Well I am hopeful I have never had a page or reply post that quick or have PF come up so quickly from my e mail to online ...*****fingers crossed***** If this keeps up I will send in a little more boot to help with the fix. Well while I was bragging on the new and improved PF (and it is speed wise thanks!) this notice came up ;

PF will be going down for updates starting at 3:25 AM Eastern time (wed,mine) (Less than 15 minutes from now.)

Not sure. Possibly. Its either that or take it down for a day or two, we figured you'd prefer it to be a daily thing!

 

Thanks for the heads up Makedde (all of them!) And thanks for going above and beyond the call of duty for taking the time to let us know. Yes it was much better to know something. I care take Mom who has cancer, she sometimes gets up at 10pm (after going to bed at 4pm) and through the early AM hours I usually post online and drink much coffee before I go to 'work'* at 8 am. It just ain't the same without my fav site PF ...ha ha.

Hey I was telling Hillbilly that this time I can really see a difference! The site is faster than its ever been, I like it. If it stays this way up dates or no up dates I am going to send in another donation, I like to reward hard work. Too bad the mods can not be financially reimbursed. If I owned a site, I would work on something for the mods even if it was just virtual stuff. Anyway thanks to the IT people the staff and the owner for the very tangible improvements...if this keeps up I am going to have to start a new thread titled Fast fast and Faster!

* Work consists of going to the office and doing fundraising and administrative duties for ABOTCC (Apocalyptic Bearer Of The Cross Church) getting the missions (Mountain Manna, and The mission of Crosses) funded for this year...man I would rather eat dog doo doo than fundraising, so I know how difficult it is for you guys...grant writing is even worse!

What we do know is that the site owner is busting buns trying to make improvements. We may still have problems and probably will in the future but I believe that as long as there is serious efforts underway then we can accept that. I think that was the foundation for most member complaints. While the site owner was "working" on it we couldn't see that happening. Now it is more evident as the site is shut down, hopefully for only a short time, and then back up.

I'm just glad I'm not a techie because this would drive me nuts.

BTW I'm with you because I do most of my moderator actions before work and with the site down in the early mornings it prevents me from doing that. Mak is really left out on a limb living in the wrong hemisphere and on the wrong side of the international dateline.

Ok the site did speed up after the first long down time…but after that I noticed some hick ups…but I ignored them. However yesterday and today Sat. the 18th I attempted to log on to PF around 4am, and gave up, then I attempted several times with the same result…my browser bar was stuck on ‘connecting to PF‘ with the little clock thingie spinning round and round… then the thing times out. I did get on about an hour ago, but then the page transitions took a good five min of they transitioned at all.

Why does the overworked mods have to fix what is clearly a domain problem? Well, maybe its not a domain problem. I like Shiva have no credentials in web design or technical experience in maintaining a website except for rudimentary stuff. The only time I had a problem similar to this guess what? I finally after over $400 worth of paying good talent to look for the problem that no kind of software could pinpoint, a good IT guy told me I had a dedicated hacker on my butt! He also told me there was no foolproof defense against the guy, but he would try to make me invisible to him or her.

It worked! It cost me one computer (the entire system 32 was trashed, and I would have had to buy another op system etc, and lic, so I just junked the puter with and said good riddance). That was about three years ago. I am wondering you guys know that a site generates a lot of hate (and some love if done right and I do have a virtual love for my virtual friends at PC). Getting banned or members saying things that entirely pisses off a lot of people its inevitable that one day you guys will PO a talented otherwise stupid lowlife cowardly hacker. Don’t get me started, I am anti death penalty but for malicious hackers I think I would be for the DP and kick in a little slow torture! Ha ha~

Anyway if you do have a hacker the site is in serious trouble, that is unless you have a PhD level tech that can root out the idiot and cut his virtual balls off. I am NOT happy, its Saturday, and I cant post on my fave site so I will have to spend my time at ’the other place’…….Man … the more I think of it, if you guys have thrown real talent at the problem , you might want to consider that it’s a hacker or worse…IT MAY BE AN INTERNAL PROBLEM IE A INSIDE JOB. A Moderator that has a covert reason (ie paid by someone that hates PF) or staff member may be sabotaging the efforts. I have seen that happen too! Once, @ necroerotica (yes it was before I got saved) ha ha ~. I hope you all consider getting outside help in fixing PF soon...bye for now.

It was really slow when I first signed in this morning, perhaps due to maintenance being performed.
It has now sped up again and works great.

 

Give it a couple minutes, it'll slow back down for ya!

The site is dreadfully slow for me this morning as well and I've contacted the site owner about it. I'm literally having to click on an action and then go read news articles while PF loads.

Hopefully the site owner can identify the problem quickly and address it. I know that sometimes a "fix" is installed and it actually creates a new and worse problem. I'm not an IT guru so much of this is well beyond the extent of my knowledge but like everyone it annoys me.

I have noticed "preview post" is sometimes so slow I am tempted to just close the application.

It's erratic though. It works very well at times.

Its 12;06 AM Sunday and its fast again, as a nod to Shiva and to the other mods that are working on the problem I know its much worse for them, having to do their mod activities an' all. My hat is off to them and if I were a web employer looking for good loyal talent I would look amongst the ranks of our moderators for immediate hire....

Yes, it can drive us nuts when PF acts up. There have been times where the moderators simply gave up trying to work Reported Posts because the system was sooooooooooo slow.
