    We had a birthday today. My little pygmy goat had a baby. The poor thing....the baby was about 1/2 as big as she was. I helped with this one.

    We can talk dogs...I have a Briard and a Chihuahua. Both are high strung but one is 85 lbs and the other is about 4.5 lbs. :smile: Guess who beats up on who?

    The 4.5 pound one is the one that beats up on the 85 pound. Same thing goes on here, my Blue Heeler fights with the Border Collie all the time. She is about half his size. He got back at her last night, she was playing with one of his toys, he took it away from her and put it back in the toy box. He must have thought he showed her, they won't share toys.

    Is the Mama ok? Did she reject the baby after it was born. I know sometimes cows will reject their babies if they are large. If someone isn't there with the colostrum in a bottle to give the baby it might not live. More than likely it won't live. Hope Mama and baby are doing well.

    colostrum supplements are good for people, helps with the immune system the same way it does for animals.

    but if you have a farm you don't have to buy them, you can get the colostrum naturally.

    It is the first milk from a cow or whatever animal gives milk. It has to be the first milk and if Mama rejects baby it won't get it from her it has to be given by bottle. My FIL had a baby bull whose Mama rejected it and he had to be fed by bottle till he was old enough to be weaned. A neighbor's cow rejected her calf and it died. Sad..

    sorry for the loss, have you ever tried the first milk for health reasons? i take the colostrum supplements to prevent illness.

    The guy I know is from Alabama...Ragland Al. And his last name is Buttram. And in other news I got a new baby goat this morning. This one is brown, black and white. Don't know the sex yet. But it is alive and nursing.

    IButtram is not a common name, so he could be related.

    Do you have any more goats that are going to have babies? Is it a pygmy or a different breed. I like the one in your avatar it is so cute.

    I have one more due soon. And the avitar is a pygmy. I have two more nannies bred but it will be several months before they conceive. We have 5 new ones so far this year.

    Mamma is fine. We separated her and her kid from the rest. But they are both doing fine. We had another kid at about 3 this afternoon. This nanny rejected the last kid she had but we decided to give her one more try. She seems to be bonding with this one. If she rejects this one its off to the sale. Kids have to get that first drink of colostrum very soon after birth. If not they usually die. So the first hour or so is important. I don't buy colostrum suppliments. I feel it is a waste of money.

    Not to get political or anything, but I always check the lineup on LOGO (gay) tv because they run the best old sitcoms. I call 'em strong women shows. Green Acres, Married With Children, Maude, Roseanne, etc. Girls rule!! Lol
