Well, it came thru today, my SS increase for 2024 will be $51/mo and I'll donate that $51 to an organization here in my town that I appreciate, so I'll give them the $51.

Social insurance, as conceived by President Roosevelt, would address the permanent problem of economic security for the elderly by creating a work-related, contributory system in which workers would provide for their own future economic security through taxes paid while employed. Thus it was an alternative both to reliance on welfare and to radical changes in our capitalist system. In the context of its time, it can be seen as a moderately conservative, yet activist, response to the challenges of the Depression.

Thanks to FDR and his buddies, they brought us good protection.

Now will SS be there for the AI Generation?

I've been hearing from others for years, the system won't be there for me....

The country has changed so madly so all I can say to many of you SAVE YOUR MONEY....

I paid into the system for at least 40 yrs of employment, and was NEVER without work. Life Was So Good....the 50's thru the early 80's......

The system will likely be there for quite a while, however the benefits level is going to have to go down; the amount of FICA being paid by current workers isn't enough to continue benefits at current levels. SSA trusties estimate current levels can be maintained for 10-12 years.

I would personally love to see SS disappear into the sea of failed programs. This program has robbed money from future generations. To take one’s burden and to hand it off to your kids is no success at any measure. This is just one of the few I would like to see disappear

other countries hate us having Social Security and want to see us destroy it

as for Americans that want to take it away.... wanting to take Social Security away from our elderly is just so wrong

all they have to do is raise the cap, problem solved, the longer we wait, the more it will need to be raised, we should have raised it 10 years ago

I am glad it's there, I paid into it for all my working years and was NOT a big money saver and didn';t make BIG money anyway. Pretty normal middle class person and worked for decades, like MANY have.

I'm on my way out here as I'm 85 but what about all the generations headed into this AI world...I am not clear on AI and don't care either about it, FOR ME....

I think that Social Security will be around for years to come. And benefit cuts will come about through not raising benefits 1 for 1 with inflation, while the absolute benefit amount will still go up.

I don't know how people who rely on Social Security as their only source of income get by with rent and food, but they somehow do that. I guess that's why we also have income-restricted apartments and SNAP benefits.
