Good article and i think those of us on both sides would agree. This next election is turning into socialism verses capitalism. I have to hope and believe America rejects socialism in mass.

"Will this country turn its back on an economic system that has created more wealth and provided more opportunity for millions to improve their lives in favor of a socialist utopia that has never, ever succeeded elsewhere? Will they break from our free enterprise system at a time when every person who wants a job can find one, when real wages are finally moving higher, when Americans are optimistic about their futures? This is the moment Democrats choose to try to force socialism down our throats? How can that be?

    You can thank President Obama.

Obama ignored the working men and women of this country.

After the financial crisis, Obama did not prioritize putting people back to work. He focused on ObamaCare, climate change and on winning the Hispanic vote. He surrounded himself with people like Larry Summers who, to this day, derides our economic potential. Summers’ judgement that the U.S. had entered a prolonged period of “secular stagnation” convinced the Obama White House that boosting our manufacturing industries or unshackling small businesses was pointless.

As a result, the economy stuttered forward and wages were stuck. Disgruntled workers saw investors reaping the rewards of globalization while their own fortunes steadily declined.

Some of those workers elected President Trump, who promised to revive American industry and has kept that promise. Others bought into Bernie Sanders’ politics of envy, believing that successful Americans are profiting from a rigged system that only favors the rich.

The former group will vote to support our way of life; as success stories pile up, we have to hope that the latter group will also vote against the socialist solution."

If you're lucky. In fact if you're very lucky you might live long enough to enjoy some of the benefits of Socialism. You might then learn that Socialism is not necessarily a dirty word.

Socialism and a free society cannot coexist. The brain dead that have no sense of history are spouting off a failed ideology that has killed 100 million in the past. There is a reason that older folks and those that have come to this country to escape socialism are against it. The older folks are just better educated on it and the escapees have first hand knowledge.

People of Venezuela beg to differ. Regardless though most of us can agree the next election is not Trump verses whoever dems run, its socialism verses capitalism.

'Socialism' will not be on the ballot. But as we've seen here, people don't care to understand what 'socialism' really is, and the difference between it and what several Dem candidates are suggesting.

Likewise, we know that when a candidate has a talking point (ie. THEY want Socialism), even if refuted in a debate, they will continue using the talking point. It is, indeed, one of the most frustrating parts of campaigning - and it happens on both sides. There is no evolution or growth of message during a campaign...they answer unrelated questions with their practiced talking points. And the one we will see - over and over again in 2020 - is socialism. Truth be damned!

Bernie is openly socialist while those running against him are leaning so far to the left in quest of his base that they themselves become socialist.

    True- every word.

Perhaps we have made the good life too easy to obtain; tried to give it away instead of always requiring it to be earned. Few people appreciate the value of anything they get free or without sufficiently earning it. That applies when you give a kid a car, a credit card or most anything else- because they have no "skin in the game", they have risked nothing. When we do that with things like freedom and prosperity and they are taken for granted as obligations of society that all are entitled to- but those people become the spoilers; they kill the golden goose for dinner or just for fun, but still expect the eggs to keep rolling in.

They simply fail to understand that they are the people responsible for the future. We have allowed far too many of our children to grow up believing that someone else will pay their bills, fix their problems, fill their demands- believing that they are entitled to things beyond what they are willing to provide for themselves.

Any concept that tells people that things will be free, that they can act irresponsibly without consequence, that there will always be a grand sugar daddy to pay the bills for them- if not only a fraud, it is a trap. Much like the free lunch we give fish by placing an easy meal on a hook- those who take it have sold themselves out, and will pay the price.

Fools Gold.... and only fools buy it.

As is typical from the mainstream media in this nation (both left and right), this article is false narrative and propaganda on steroids.

This puts forward and infers the following myths and propaganda false narrative.

    1) we have fair and free markets in this nation
    2) that individual liberties have not been rendered almost meaningless by our corrupt political class (including SCOTUS)
    3) that the right are somehow the ones who are supporters of individual liberty and fair and free markets.

The above is demonstrably false nonsense on steroids.

Both Red and Blue Establishment hate fair and free markets and they hate individual liberty. The Establishment loves Corporatism, Oligopolies, price fixing and anti competitive practices. They love trampling on the founding principles and individual liberty while increasing the power of Gov't and Police power towards a quazi totalitarian police state.

Fidel's victims might disagree. Obama thought Cuban Americans, descendants of those pictured above, would be captivated by the Democrats opening trade with the genocidal maniac Socialist regime. That didn't work out well.

I agree capitalism and the American way of life has already taken some hits but this next election is socialism going for all out victory against what we have managed to maintain of the freedoms and capitalism this country was founded on and what made us the most successful country in the world.

So no one pays for healthcare? Do all the doctors, nurses, hospital staffs work for free?

(Disclaimer: The above questions in no way support socialism)

Securing the border to keep MS-13 gang members out of the US will be on the GOP side

I sympathize to some degree with your angst, but I do not think you are shooting your arrow straight and I do not think you get the degree to which the founding principles - principles of Republicanism and Classical Liberalism - have already been trampled.

Red Establishment is not the solution to Blue Establishment - Both are the same with respect to the significant issues that matter to the Establishment. It matters not whether Red or Blue gets into the White House - the Establishment will do what the Establishment will do.

Freedom ? What Freedom. Are you not aware that it is now your "Patriotic Duty" to give up essential liberty ? This nation was founded on "Give me Liberty or Give me Death". The majority of citizens are now cowering in corners and on their knees "Begging" to give up essential liberty over a risk of harm that is 400 times less than the risk of harm from "walking".

The founders knew well the age old trick of using fear of an external threat to take away essential liberty. This is the point that Franklin was making when he said "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase temporary security deserve neither liberty nor security"

Stalin used this trick - fear of an external threat to take away liberty - "Security for the Motherland"
Hitler did the same using the same slogans "Fatherland Security"
Bush was no different. Lacking the creative ability to come up with a new name "Homeland Security"

Obama then came along and change the name of the Patriot Act to the equally Orwellian doublespeak "Freedom Act"
Classic don't you think ? The name of the act which takes away freedom being called the "Freedom Act".

Now while Bush (characterized as the village idiot) may have been unaware of the founding principles ... the idea that Obama - Harvard Law constitutional scholar and civil rights activist was ignorant of these principles does not pass the giggle test. (I do not actually believe that Bush was the Village Idiot btw - he was much smarter than he is given credit for)

So riddle me this. When the head of the NSA - Clapper - lied to congress (felony 1) about en mass spying on US citizens (felony 2) not only was he not charged or punished - he kept his Job. Some of those being threatened with massive jail terms in the Meuller investigation are not getting the kid glove treatment (for far lesser crimes) though are they.

What did Obama say in defense of the NSA ? "If we want increased security - we have to give a little" Now you can say what you like about Bush but, Obama knew EXACTLY what he was saying and knew it was counter to everything he had previously stood for .. an act of self hypocrisy on the highest order.

YET - he said it anyway. I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard this.

In 2013 it was made legal for our intelligence agencies to create and disseminate propaganda on US citizens. The Transparency in Gov't is at all time lows and those who out, or try to out, Gov't crimes (through legitimate ways - not talking Snowden or Manning) are viciously persecuted, threatened and have their lives destroyed.

The safeguards the founders put in place to prevent Tyranny have either been removed or under systematic attack. "Russia is coming" to take away your freedom.

Are you fricken kidding me ? (not you but those screeching this nonsense narrative). Russia barely amounts to a snowflake in the midst of a blizzard. Our media is a propaganda arm of the State/Establishment. Our intelligence agencies (not that they have not been doing this for some time) are a legitimized propaganda machine ... complete with a 130 Billion dollar budget (including the dark budget).

To put this number in perspective - this is double the entire Federal Spend of Mexico - a nation that is 11th in the world in terms of purchasing power.

Cortez is not running - and would not win if she did - and even if she did run - she would have little power to go against the Establishment - just like Trump ( under the hypothetical assumption that he wasn't an Establishment wonk - which he is)

Extreme Socialism (like that under totalitarian communist Russia) and Extreme Capitalism meet at the far end of the political spectrum. In both cases you have a few elite owning most resources and means of production.

Touting one extreme to combat the other is then a waste of time. Somehow we have managed to combine some of the worst elements of both into what I call an Oligopoly-Bureaucracy Fusion Monster.

This whole "Social Democrat" label is a code word for "Utilitarianism as a legitimate justification for Law".

The problem is that the right also uses this same justification for law - which allows for an end run around individual liberty - and the safeguards which were put in place to prevent Tyranny.

What you have is then both sides sodomizing both capitalism and individual liberty - just from different angles but using the same essential rational.

This post is super long already so I will not get into Utilitarianism but, if you are interested - and you should be as this evil has reached plague proportions and is the root cause of your angst - just ask.

If it’s Harris vs. Cruz, it will be “Socialism vs. the American Way of Life”.

Or you could say, “Antifa vs. Leave It To Beaver”.

We already know that in the absence of any ideas and policy proposals, fear mongering is all the GOP has.

Expect to hear "socialism" and "Venezuela" shouted from the rooftop in any GOP campaign event and from Fox news and the RW media and blogosphere.
