But this percentage could start decreasing, because India has a number of Hydroelectric plants coming on-line, which is also considered renewable energy. Bottom line - renewables are a major priority in India.

Hydroelectric power is the most responsive power of all, when it comes to dispatching power quickly. As such, it teams really well with solar and wind. It also lends well to pumped water storage, where water can be pumped uphill, while solar and wind are producing, and released through turbines, when the wind and solar are idle.

It may be 88% of renewables, but not total. Over 80%of India's energy are from: coal, oil and solid biomass.

Yes that is correct. However I also linked an article that talks about all the new Hydroelectric being brought on-line. That 80% will decline.

    That seems doubtful.
India To Increase Coal Production By 60%

The article I cited is dated 2024. Yours isn't - the hydro and additional renewables may be displacing some of the plans for coal. That said, a number of these countries are all electrifying --- what does this mean? --- they may add a little coal, but if that means they get rid of twice as much greenhouse gas from reducing oil from gasoline, that's a net PLUS.

The article is five months old. You're denying.

In the renewables industry, 5 months is a long time, as cutting-edge technologies continue to spring forth. These new hydroelectric plants are for real!

    So are India's coal investments.

What I don't notice is what percent of TOTAL power production share renewables in Indian does this equate to?

India is actually doing quite well with renewables.

https://static.pib.gov.in/WriteRead... capacity coming from non-fossil fuel sources.

Keeping in mind the sustainable development goals, India's power generation mix is rapidly shifting towards a more significant share of renewable energy. Today, India is the world's third largest producer of renewable energy, with 40% of its installed electricity capacity coming from non-fossil fuel sources

    Nonsense.
Coal is the country's top energy source with a share of 46% in 2022, followed by oil (24%) and biomass (21%). Natural gas covers 5% and primary electricity (hydro, nuclear, solar, and wind) 4%.

Look at the last chart from your link - hydro, solar and wind (without nuclear) well over 20%.

Even in Texas, wind started outproducing coal in electrical generation a few years ago and only a matter of time before it catches up with gas. I have no idea why Republicans don't brag about this issue. Is it that difficult to deprogram their supporters?

So are those "non-fossil fuel? numbers based ib peak, average, rated delivery, etc? Because we all know none of them deliver top rates continually.

I live in Colorado, and renewables is less of a political issue here. I have a number of Republican friends and neighbors who have solar panels on their roof, and have purchased or aspire to purchase an EV. The NREL labs are in CO.

You are distinguishing between capacity and production. Yes, my chart shows capacity numbers. The Jack Hays link in #12 shows Production numbers - chart below. It's notable that India's percent of renewables is returning to 1990s levels. Similar to China, India is undergoing a huge electrification in their country. Undoubtedly, all those renewables in 1990 were due to hydro, whereas the steady rise since 2015 was primarily due to wind and solar.

That total includes biomass. I prefer to keep the forests.

See table on post #10 - Biomass is a very small percentage of their renewable capacity - around 5%.

And again - are these numbers total capacity, or actual power delivered?

And yet Enerdata puts biomass at 21% of total energy. Please see #11.

    In addition:
Over 80%of India's energy needs are met by three fuels: coal, oil and solid biomass. Coal has underpinned the expansion of electricity generation and industry, and remains the largest single fuel in the energy mix.

You'll have to explain your link. You also stated that renewables was 4%, when it is much higher.

Your renewables data are in error unless you include biomass.

Yes, I know. It includes biomass among renewables.
