@Grover Cleveland expressed an interest in these pieces so here are a few. Grover Cleveland had an incredible political career. In a span of less than two years, he advanced from Mayor Buffalo, New York to President of the United States. Cleveland's favorite slogans were "reform" and "a public office is a public trust." This piece was from his first campaign in 1894. Cleveland's running mate, shown on the reverse of this piece. He died from a stroke nine months after Cleveland married Frances Folsom in the White House in 1886. He was 49; she was 21, but the story got better. Frances has the daughter of Cleveland's law partner. When he died in a carriage accident, Cleveland became her legal guardian. He bought her first baby carriage for her. Over time, a relationship formed between them. After Frances graduated from college, they were married. It might have been a scandal, but it wasn't. The public loved Frances and she became a major political asset. Here is a campaign pin that featured her. And a matching pin for Grover. The Democrats had not won a presidential election since 1856 when Cleveland won in 1884. Naturally that was much celebrating among the party faithful. This rare piece is leather marked that big win in 1884. Cleveland lost the 1888 presidential election because of the problems he had with the Democratic politicians in his home state, New York. They disliked him because he opposed corruption. Cleveland received more popular votes that Benjamin Harrison, but he lost in the Electoral College. Cleveland lost New York State by a whisker, but built huge majorities in the South. Cleveland regained the White House in 1892, becoming the first president to serve two non-consecutive terms. This piece celebrates past Democratic Party victories. The man at the bottom of the reverse of this piece is Samuel J. Tilden. He was never president, but most Democrats figured that he had been cheated out of the office in the controversial election of 1876. I have many more pieces. This is just a sample.
