    I believe this thread has sexist overtones. Music, by it's very nature, is aural. We perceive it sensorily through hearing it, it is not a visual art. Unless you're a teen-age girl who is into boy bands, and the primary motive for music appreciation is fantasizing what it might be like to hold hands with one of the band members. I would hope the development of one's musical tastes over the course of their lifetime eventually exceeds the vapidity of teen-age, for lack of a better word...stupidity, by judging an artist by their level of physical attractiveness.

    In other words the physical appearance of a musical artist(s) is a lesser consideration to their ability to move me emotionally through their aural artistry.

    You can write it off, but it's the truth. Music today is based upon the marketability of the artist. As a result the artist no longer has the staying power, personality or song writing abilities of their predecessors. There are probably a multitude of talented and inspired singer/song writers, musicians, etc. who are relegated to the sidelines of the industry based upon their lack of marketability.

    I'm a guy by the way...I'm not some feminist arguing against the objectification of women, but the thread is indicative of the cultural morass that exists today in music.

    Does the artist look good while performing, can we market these looks. This is the business plan. Combine that with the loss of melody and we see the major contributors to the decline in music's standing in American culture. Songs, traditionally, have been comprised of four factors; melody, rhythm, harmony and lyric each with equal weight. Beats have replaced melody, even going so far as the lifting of melodies from other people's songs.

    What's that song from the 80's? Video killed the radio star...this merits some truth.
