Sotomayor: Labeling Illegal Immigrants Criminals Is Insulting

Criminal illegal aliens commit numerous violations of Federal and state laws when they work here. Conveniently, the Supreme Court has decided it's okay for criminal illegals to commit Federal crimes. And people wonder why the Courts and the legal system are losing any credibility on any issue.

Oh please! There is a huge difference between going over the speed limit and illegally crossing the border. You are making an argument that all misdemeanors are the same. Ridiculous.

The term "criminal" is typically reserved for the worst offenders, or repeat offenders.

Hyperbole, that claim has been made and shown by UC Davis to be incorrect. Even if wages were to double for picking crops, the end cost is merely pennies to the consumer.

 

There is a difference between an infraction and a violation. EWI has always been considered a crime (violation), it is VO's (Visa Overstays) that are only considered infractions of immigration law.

Fair enough. Let's just call them "Law Breakers" or "Non respecting of the Law" or "lessor than felons" or, even "misdemeanants".

I have to smile at Justice Sotomayor's logic and reasoning. The sheer audacity of the statement is ridiculous. Surely anyone violating the law when caught would be insulted for being caught, because they then face deportation and may be denied lawful entrance to America in the future after spending all that money paying coyotes to smuggle them into the country.
Definition of illegal: (adj.) Prohibited by law and/or official rules.
Surely the Honorable Sotomayor knows the difference between Legal and Illegal.

BTW, if that were to happen most people would start growing vegetables in their backyards again. It's one of the few things the common man has been doing for centuries.

So you think staying in this country illegally is the same as those? Really? Crossing the border illegally isn't a misdemeanor. Might as well add grand larceny, because someone who goes to the ER and doesn't pay is stealing $1000s from everyone elses pockets. Someone who sends their kids to school without paying any taxes to really cover the costs is also stealing $1000s. Obtaining a fake SS# certainly isn't a misdemeanor. Driving without a licence or insurance, which can't be obtained without ID is not a misdemeanor. Sneaking across the border and having children in order to stay is not only costing the country 100s of $1000s, but morally and ethically wrong. We can go on and on.

 

So it's not the act of entering the country that's harming people. But the fact that it's against the law.

A misdemeanor is a crime. That said, weed should be completely legal.

 

Labelling rapists as "rapists" is also insulting. We should start calling them Overly Persuasive/Insistent Violent Sex Distributors, or some such crap...
