What irritates me is watching our billionaires squander their potential with frivolous consumption while everyone else tries to ape their attitude.
You got Apple grousing about starting a new facility in India as a good move away from their reliance on China.
Why the hell aren’t they moving their production to the US while they take in billions in profits?
You got Musk whining about how he can’t source ev batteries for his cars, but instead of building his own manufacturing capabilities, he squanders 44 billion bucks on a petulant whim to be the world's most powerful shitposter.

It's an American tradition to offend dictatorships that threaten Democracy. We've done that for centuries!

Just that we took a pause during the Trump regime that adopted the OPPOSITE approach and actually sucked up to dictators and authoritarian regimes. But we are now back on track. As it should be!

You MUST be kidding! Trump upset and worried nearly everybody, including our allies.

If nothing else, ask yourself this -- how much belligerent crap did China, North Korea, or Russia pull while Trump was president...?!

I support Pelosi completely on her recent trip to Taiwan, even though Biden's White House goons did not! So, both of us on the Left and the Right can support the Speaker of the House in her going to Taiwan, but you have to use the occasion to aim a barb at Trump? How tiresome and predictable!

    Re:
Pelosi didn't go to Taiwan to do anything noble that would benefit Americans or "stand up to Chinese tyranny".

She only went on this US taxpayer funded, self serving junket to appeal to her pro Taiwanese political base at home and gain voter support in her district.

In fact, every US President from Nixon through Obama effectively "sucked up" to China.
Trump was the exception -- and the DP/RP establishment accused Trump of risking war with his aggressive approach to dictators.

“Mr. Trump today said his administration would impose aluminum and steel tariffs beginning "sometime next week." The tariffs will be 10 percent for aluminum and 25 percent for steel, lasting for "a long period of time," he told steel and aluminum executives at the White House today.

The decision to impose tariffs is likely to escalate simmering tensions with China and other U.S. trading partners.”

Yes, Pelosi, like all professional politicians is a corrupt self server.
Nevertheless, landing in Taiwan after a threat to shoot her down was very gutsy.

Not at all. As a matter of fact, Putin and KJU were delighted with Trump. Our democratic allies, yes... Authoritarian dictators, no...

Practically none! Why would they? Their first priority was to keep their useful tool in power. The American people just refused to go along with it.

I know that it upsets those who helped put Trump in power that we remind them that they participated in allowing a criminal incompetent nincompoop occupy the WH. And I'm sorry they have to suffer for having done this. It's nothing personal against them. But they DO need to be reminded every day so that next time they meditate their vote better. It was already obvious back then that the guy was a fascist, and not a conservative. If they forget, they might even go and vote for ANOTHER fascist. Forgetting that it's fascists, not conservatives, who abuse power to punish private companies that disagree with them, who threaten free speech, and who suck up to other fascists like KJU, Putin and Orban

You confuse diplomacy with sucking up. Typical.

Yeah... He praised Xi for becoming (in Trump's words) "President for Life" after his power grab. Adding " Maybe we'll give that a shot"

Much as you try, there is no way your revisionist history can alter REAL facts.

LOL! Blind party partisans sure have a hard time keeping their talking points straight. ;-)

“Despite Democratic hawks smearing him as a Russian puppet, Trump has led the United States back into a Cold War with Russia and China that most Americans thought we had left behind a generation ago. His National Security and Defense Strategy documents have unequivocally redefined Russia and China as enemies of the United States, courting major power confrontations and ensuring record military budgets for years to come.

This is a startling departure from Obama's 2015 National Security Strategy, which "welcome[d] the rise of a stable, peaceful, and prosperous China" and promised to "keep the door open to greater collaboration with Russia in areas of common interests."

Why would the Chinese shoot down one of the greatest threats facing American democracy today?

    Just wondering.

Amazing! Intel pulled its large fab in Colorado because there wasn't enough water... but there is in Arizona? Who'd a thunk it?!

It was a very small fab and the large 12" tools wouldn't fit in the 6" factory.

Really? I remember that a couple of friends of mine quit pretty good jobs at Compaq in Colorado Springs to go work at that Intel fab down there. The word across Colorado was that Intel had kept the fab in Albuquerque instead, because Colorado Springs didn't have enough water (and still doesn't, actually, but neither does the greater Denver metro area, either).

Anyway, everything went bust down there. Intel left Colorado after a short stay. Years before, Compaq had bought Digital Corporation, but then HP bought Compaq... and after while, HP shut down their huge operation in Colorado Springs, too, back during the "Mark Hurd" days. Everybody got the bright idea of off-shoring everything imaginable, but now that the Chinese are threatening to take over Taiwan, everything's coming back? "Wheel in the sky keeps on turning...." :rock_slayer:

yea, i wonder how much Trump jacking up the price on raw materials contributed to inflation down stream.

Yes, it had nothing to do with water as far as I know. NM had brand new huge12" fab. The fabs don't use all that much water any longer as they recycle pretty much 100% and when it does go out, it's much cleaner than when it comes in.

Tariffs increase prices. It's not something that is up for debate.

    And yet here you are.

Tarriffs can be absorbed by the manufacturer or subsidized like China does.

Yes, and even when either of those things happen, the cost is increased.

Or do you think that government subsidies aren't a cost?

Do you think magical fairies absorb the extra cost somewhere in the process?
