Which is all very well, except that there is no intrusion of Sharia law here; and what there is in the form of Sharia civil tribunals is no more 'intrusive' than the Jewish Beth Din courts which perform the same function. Both are purely voluntary and both parties concerned must consent to the tribunal's findings after arbitration. Furthermore both Sharia and Beth Din tribunals are at all times subject to English Law, which is the final arbiter. Right-wing rags and the tabloid media are very good at screeching headlines for the gullible masses to lap up. Don't be a victim of media hysteria; that's what sells the papers and what they tell you should always lead you to question them.
The United States is a secular nation. - - - Updated - - - Care to provide cases where Jewish Beth Din courts have handled domestic abuse cases?
What on earth for? But since you asked it seems that the men in the Jewish community aren't keen on going public about domestic abuse in Jewish homes, and cases of domestic abuse tend to get quietly swept under the carpet: http://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/46410/one-four-jewish-women-suffer-abuse-home
The USA is a secular country with a Christian nation. The UK is a Christian country with a secular nation.
what??? you haven't purchased your prayer mat, yet? seems like you can't resist 'em, so go ahead and join them
You just broke Rule 7. Would you care to remove this racist crap before I have it removed by the staff ? One chance only. This forum is viewed by young muslims.
Uhm... why, what's wrong with his post? Not as eloquently put together as some of your posts, Moon, but it does essentially conveys the collective wish of many PF'ers... Oh, and there's nothing racist in his post, too - moslems are not race.
mooslims aren't a "race".......................... thought you should know that..............biology much?
I don't know if you can really call the UK a secular nation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demography_of_the_United_Kingdom#Religion The British are less religious than Americans on average, but I'm not sure that will be the case in about 10 to 15 years.
Apparently the schools in question are being investigated by OFSTED. They'll likely be forced to change their policies. Also when talking about Muslims in the UK it does actually help to see it first hand. In my view most Muslims which generally speaking hail from the Indian subcontinent are actually quite integrated into British society. But yes there are a few "enclaves" in which they keep themselves to themselves and having walked many times in one such place I felt no hostility. Now I don't doubt that there are others here who through their own experience feel differently but I'm just offering my view as someone who lives in a county which has a significant number of Muslims.
I don't see that at all. From overseas, Americans are characterised by their repetitious and infuriating references to christianity. Billy Graham gave ' secular America ' a kick in the nuts. Of course, that was nothing compared to the antics of Billy-Bob Bookburner, shown frequently on every tv screen on the globe.
Billy Graham had a lot of influence and The Family has a lot as well, but unlike a lot of the world, our governmental doctrine prohibits state endorsement of religion. That being said, we do have certain religious fanatics that enter office.
based on the application of your theory, then throwing acid in the face of young girls, stoning women to death in public, shooting the wife in the back of the head in public, blowing up night clubs in acts of cowardice is what? legitimate?
You don't say. The ' separation of church and state ' is seen as a joke in the US today, isn't it ? It certainly has people howling in Cyberia.
I wouldn't say that it's a joke at all. But you have to remember that separation of church and state doesn't prohibit a politician from being religious. It only prohibits laws from endorsing religion.
Actually that would be genetics, not biology. I'm always happy to educate Americans; call it my civic responsibility.
