Moriah.....how do we compensate and who do we compensate? Does Barrack Hussein Obama get compensation? Though his skin is highly pigmented.....no slavery there!
Exactly who pays? You know, this is just another identity politic crisis invented by Democrats that have no policy other than to transform these United States into a Socialist Country.

How does he have a right to give reparations to anyone. If he wants to do it with his money , OK. I wasn't here in1865 nor were my parents or grandparents. In fact our family didn't come over until around 1900. Didn't have a damn thing to do with slavery. Hasn't the US already paid reparations. 20 acres and a mule? Plantations divided up and given to the servants? How about welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, section 8 housing, school busing, free lunch programs, forced hiring, forced promotions, free schooling, forced scholarships, WIK, free pre-natal care, SSI, forced hire of government jobs, etc. etc. Seems to me the descendants have done pretty well. I can see why Gov. Northrup of Va. was wearing blackface. Wanted some of those freebies for himself, did he? Seems to have worked for Elizabeth Warren.

These rare events the best you got? Are you denying that black males commit a HIGHLY disproportionate amount of crime in this country?

There is no government program for that other than what others get. They can BUY homes under a BIA program, they aren't free. We have a HUGE Porch Creek Indian reservation just north of me it's not a federal government run or funded place.

You and Styer are the now coming up with the tired old pandering to black voters and everything I listed is reality which you cannot refute and don't put words in my mouth. My neighbor is black and aboutbthe same age, got the same education as me, started with nothing andnlike me made hisbway through life and like me approcahing retirement. Why shiuldnhe get some kind of payment from the government because he is black and me nit because I'm white?

Because Lincoln did not want those states with their slavery to leave the Union. He wanted to keep them in the Union where slavery was legal before the war, during the war and after the war. So he invaded.

Why does the left and Blacks keep using these race gaiters as their spokes persons?

For historical reference that's fine nine of us will historically. But wallow in it and define the United States by it will only hold them back. African-Americans are not the only people to have ever been inslaved or oppressed in this country or the world. But they seem to be the only people who refuse to rise above it and move forward.

I've no doubt Al Sharpton has an idea on how to implement reparations. Probably by having himself put in charge of distribution.

    There is one other...The Palestinians.

After WWll there were millions of refugees around the world but the only ones who are still living in refugee camps today are Palestinians. As you can see, they made a big success out of it.

I just heard that Tom Steyer has dropped out of the Presidential race as of today, February 29th. Reason: he didn't do well in the South Carolina primary.
If a Democrat is elected President, maybe they can put Steyer in charge of the Reparations Dept. ;):democrat:

Tom Steyer may be out, but reparations are here to stay. I hope someone sneaks a camera into that foodfight when the platform committee meets!

But Steyer is out of this. If anyone is going to involved of passing out reparations, it will be someone like Al Sharpton, Sheila Jackson Lee, or Alcee Hastings.

    More deflections:
1)"Do Oprah Winfrey or Barack Obama get reparations too?" Answer: No, Oprah doesn't need it. And Obama doesn't quality because he had no enslaved ancestors. See how easy this is.
2)"Who pays these reparations? Should I pay if I didn't benefit from the enslavement of Africans?" Answer: The entire country benefited economically from the enslavement of Africans, even the people who didn't personally own slaves.
    3) "My family immigrated to the USA AFTER slavery had been abolished. Why should I have to pay?" Answer: You and your immigrant family have benefited from the wealth created for America by enslaved Africans.

    Are there any other deflections/questions?

Would you ask Jewish people to " rise above and move forward" from the Holocaust? Of course not. Do you know that Jewish people received reparations for the atrocities they suffered at the hands of the Nazis? The Germans had to pay them. Look it up.

Well, it didn't work. Steyer decided to quit throwing good money after bad and get out.

Yes, Steyer dropped out of the Presidential race. But, his reparations idea is still valid, IMO.

This is the issue which is the vexing one and why reparations are probably not practical.

Easy point first: Just because Oprah is rich doesn't mean she wouldn't deserve reparations. If you put an income level to it, you are saying these are NOT reparations, they are simply a vote buying program.

The second, most difficult point, is that I think most people would agree that if there were to be a reparations program, it should be confined to people who's ancestors were in slavery in the US. So no Jamaicans, Haitians, or any other non US group. So determining that is tricky. You are basically asking every Black person who thinks they are qualified to fully document their ancestry at least going back to 1865. That's a tough one. So you would have educated middle and upper class black people who have the time and income to pay for that sort of research getting reparations, and poor black people without those resources getting nothing.

I'm sure that's an outcome that will make everyone happy and America can finally put it's complicated racial past behind it!

No.....I guess you suppose we just need to allow an arrogant elite to tell us how they want to confiscate our money in order to soothe their pains of guilt so they can feel morally superior to the rest of us.

They have. And Israel "received" the aid which brought food and supplies for persons DIRECTLY affected not 8 generations later. Look it up.

How have I directly benefited from slavery 160 years ago? Who alive was directly denied something because of slavery 160 years ago? We have a principle in this country that dates way way way back to goes we don't punish the sons for the sins of the fathers nor reward them for their achievements. Of course these days that applies to daughters and mothers.

This question may have been asked already, but how can they tell who is descendent of slaves? Not all Africans came to this country in chains. What about African-Americans that owned slaves themselves, or those that came to the US after slavery was abolished?

You said look up the definition. When provided with one that you didn't like, suddenly definitions don't apply . What I expected you to do was present a different definition.

African-American was popularized in the 80's by Jesse Jackson, and not to evoke images of slavery. He was evoking pride. You've got it backwards.. Yes, most African-Americans are descendants of slaves but that is not a requirement to use the term.

#4. While it certainly wasn’t a favor to bring blacks here, the back man has made more of himself in A couple hundred years in America than since the beginning of time in Africa.
