Trump oversight fight raises new alarms about shattered precedents https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/08/donald-trump-congress-impeachment-1312317 "President Donald Trump’s increasingly bitter clashes with Congress aren’t just infuriating Democrats and sparking talk of impeachment. They are setting precedents for the exercise of presidential power and authority that could change Washington for years to come. Past presidents have certainly fought with Congress and invoked executive privilege. They include Trump’s predecessor, President Barack Obama. But Trump has suggested that he doesn’t consider Democratic congressional oversight itself to be legitimate, and is resisting it on multiple fronts at once."
Well you missed it, because the man did testify. He HAD to testify in order to lie and be held in contempt of court! Did you miss that?
You don't think that there's a difference between a Supreme Court nominee and an Attorney General? So you think that Barr should commit a crime by releasing classified material? Surely you can't be serious.
It is the prerogative of Congress as to how they choose to question witnesses called to testify. Using staff members who may be more expert in asking questions is nothing new. Billy the Bagman's objection was made because he doesn't want to face tough questions and because he knew the objection would play well with the gullible, full stop. At the least, members of the Intel committees in both Houses of Congress are authorized to view classified info. Hiding behind the claim the redacted material, both classified and grand jury, can't be disclosed is just a ruse. How many times must it be repeated that grand jury material in the Nixon and Clinton investigations was released after getting permission from the grand jury. Something Barr has refused to pursue. Why? For the same reason Individual 1 has reversed his position on using executive privilege regarding the release of the Mueller report. For the same reason the admin is stonewalling all attempts by Congress to fulfill their constitutional duties of oversight. They want to hide as much damaging info as possible from the view of Congress and the public.
OR because he has better things to do with his time than waste it on helping butthurt Democrats pursue literally NOTHING and risk getting caught in a perjury trap. Would it be guaranteed not to leak? Did it contain information about people who were still under investigation? Comparing material from the past to material that is unknown is ridiculous. How do you know that getting permission from the Grand Jury is the only thing that is required? Also, who on the Grand Jury are you saying can give permission? The jury is a group of people isn't it? Did he previously say that he wouldn't use executive privilege? And why are you calling him Individual 1? You think that there may be information that will be MORE damaging than what is in the Mueller report?
Adam Schiff thinks Americans are to stupid too be informed. Schiff for brains published an instruction manual for idiots he felt were too stupid to understand Nunes memo on FISA. The bulk of what I see posted by Trump haters are cut / paste VOX talking points. Mostly liberals are the way Schiff likes them best ... "well disinformed".
Pursuing information needed to make a determination about whether to impeach the prez on charges of obstruction of justice is not nothing. It's everything.
How the hell could Barr help them to do that? And were you not capable of replying to the rest of my post?
Well, he was held in contempt for lying specifically, so I suppose that he did not cooperate with his obligation to tell the truth.
Despite Barr Contempt Vote, Nadler Offers To Restart Talks To Get Mueller Report https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/...nt-mueller-report-restart-talks-barr-contempt Even as he blamed the Justice Department for ending negotiations around the production of the unredacted report from special counsel Robert Mueller, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said in a letter to Attorney General Bill Barr on Friday that he was wiling to re-open those the discussions. The letter went through Democrats’ version of events that culminated in the committee voting Wednesday to recommend that Barr be held in contempt, and noted that the Department, as that mark-up was starting, announced that President Trump was asserting executive privilege over the documents Democrats seek.
The report they have, sealed grand jury material they "seek". :: Straight from TPM eh? You get "farm" subsidies?
You've already shown you are capable of posting stuff other than this sort of tripe. But I suppose old habits die hard.
The House is not a police agency. Mueller gave the House nothing to start a valid impeachment process. Go ahead and try.... There is plenty of information that will expose the Left intrigue that can be entered into evidence as well. Bottom Line: The American Public fully understands that the Russian investigation was a partisan hit job. The Dems would have no way to control tons of evidence that would be submitted right in front of C-SPAN cameras. So.... GO FOR IT !!!
Old habits like posting factual representations ... Nadler wants sealed grand jury material, and for glaringly obvious reasons he's chosen to attack AG Barr rather than request the docs from the court of jurisdiction. Nadler will get nnowhere with the DOJ, and Nadler knows it, Barr, and DOJ attorneys have told him so repeatedly. You keep re-hashing, by re-sourcing your >> You're nearly as annoying as a DNC robo-call.
How is it any more lawless than the Obama admin with the Fast and Furious scandal? But the Republicans were NOT just acting to safeguard democracy when they took on the Fast and Furious scandal?
