gun registration always works as intended-to harass lawful gun owners. we agree with that. since it was never intended to stop criminals, arguing about whether it does that is a waste of effort as o the NRA-it is minuscule compared to the anti gun propaganda our main stream media engages in
Canada resembles the U.S. more than any other country in the world. I doubt very much that it would even work as well in America as it did in Canada. The NRA is not as powerful moneywise as most lobbies, it's powerful based on grass roots. It is a lobby of the people, not the boogeyman gun industry.
Expounding on that, If Americans supported gun control, we would not support the NRA. The NRA could not exist except for the support it gains from the People of the United States. If you have a problem with that, you obviously have other issues with social adjustment.
"More than once I have attended a social gathering and made the mistake of revealing what I do for a living to persons whose views on the gun issue are unknown to me. If they are hostile to my work, they usually are not shy about denouncing 'gun control' as an attack on their rights as Americans. If I ask them whether they support the Brady Act, they will almost always say yes. If I ask them whether people should be allowed to buy assault weapons, they will say, 'Of course not.' They will, however, not retreat from their opposition to 'gun control.' To many Americans, the words 'gun control' equate with opposition to guns per se." -Dennis A. Henigan So many Americans, even guns owners, support specific gun laws but claim to be opposed to gun control when asked. They've probably been brainwashed by gun lobby propaganda to associate gun control with images of Nazis seizing guns. When they are asked about more reasonable forms of gun control that are relevant to modern day America (such as background checks and banning dangerous and unusual weapons) they say they agree. It shows how much the gun lobby has muddied the waters.
After Manchin - Toomey bill was defeated in congress, senators and congressmen were interviewed on "Meet the Press" TV show as well as other shows. They all talked about the fact that they received record numbers of letters, emails, faxes and phone calls in support of defeating the bill. There was never any single issue that brought so many of these communications in to their offices. Their constituents clearly had spoken in favor of defeating the bill. I suppose if you ask the uniformed citizen if they are in favor of UBC's, they will probably answer yes. If you ask them if they are in favor of national gun registration, they are likely to say no. I referred to the "uniformed citizen" because the media sweeps under the rug the fact that UBC's cannot be enforced without registration. As far as banning unusual weapons I'm sure you can't be referring to the AR15. It is the most commonly owned rifle in America, so much for unusual.
In your own words from a previous post. http://www.politicalforum.com/showthread.php?t=411695&page=2&p=1065086145#post1065086145 In other words it is not what question is asked, but rather how it is asked, that achieves the desired results. In simpler terms, the discussion pertains to how people are manipulated.
Eventually all the right wing extremist rhetoric is going to cause some mentally unhinged person to attempt to assassinate some high-ranking public official or personality, at which point the scales will tilt the other way. It is unfortunate that in a civil society things happen that way, but it is just a sad reality of the times we live in. Reason has been vanquished by emotional reaction.
If America is so eager for more restrictions on guns, why aren't politicians jumping to introduce these laws? Answer: America isn't eager for more restrictions on guns and politicians value their jobs.
You really think because there are people in this country that support the 2A, it will cause some mentally unhinged person to attempt to assassinate a high ranking official? No one in history has assassinated anyone because there are people that advocate for this constitutional right.
Don't worry, our high ranking public officials are themselves very well armed. They believe in their 2nd amendment rights to protect themselves, just not for the rest of us.
Apparently your assertion is not quite the case... Fact Tank - Our Lives in Numbers April 17, 2015 Despite lower crime rates, support for gun rights increases For most of the 1990s and the subsequent decade, a substantial majority of Americans believed it was more important to control gun ownership than to protect gun ownersÂ’ rights. But in December 2014, the balance of opinion flipped: For the first time, more Americans say that protecting gun rights is more important than controlling gun ownership, 52% to 46%. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...crime-rates-support-for-gun-rights-increases/
