Russia presented Assad with a new Constitution over a year ago. Assad refused.

Nothing will come of this.. because Assad doesn't want ANY constitution.

So you think the government faction will sabotage the process. Interesting

(IMO) Those in power don't abdicate readily. A constitution might be crafted, but the language in such documents is (IMO) vague and subject to interpretation. (Look how often American pols claim the other is "in violation of the Constitution.")

Terrible conflict. Accusations hurled from all sides. Is the truth in these things ever really known?

Absolutely they will sabotage any new constitution.

Already have. Assad had promised reforms for 5 years before he just started killing protestors.

If the rule of law can be established in Syria, it will be over the strong objections of Israel and the US. Too early to tell, but they are working on it.

You just make stuff up as you go - in hopes of trying to support your nonsense narrative. Syria already has a constitution - which - unlike the land of your beloved El Saud - grants people a whole lot of freedom - freedom that does not exist in the Saudi Strict Sharia totalitarian nightmare.

The Syrian Constitution: Assad’s Magic Wand - Carnegie Middle ...
    carnegie-mec.org/diwan/55541?lang=en
In 1973, Syria adopted a constitution that gave the president a monopoly on power and welded the state apparatus to the Baath Party, which was enshrined as “leader of state and society” in the constitution’s article 8. Despite cosmetic changes, this system still rules Syria.

Syria won’t accept a Russian plan for a new constitution that would dilute the powers of President Bashar al-Assad, in a setback for Kremlin efforts to negotiate an end to the seven-year civil war.

I agree that Assad would not like constitutional provisions that dilute his power. That does not change the fact that Syria already has a constitution though.

Not really... ALL power is vested in Assad. That's the reason for the civil war. Syria was in bad shape and Assad promised reforms for three years. His father's 1973 constitution was a sham.

If Assad won't cooperate with Putin on a new constitution NOTHING has changed.. Except Assad has been forced to hand control of his oil reserves to Russia since 2018.

Assad has some kind of problem.. Maybe drug addiction...

Oh I see.. You are referring to the 1973 joke of a constitution under the butcher Hafez.

Kind of a pathetic way for you to save face.

You are talking in gibberish - flailing around making nonsense accusations that have no basis in reality.

Your false narrative is that 1) the conflict in Syria was a civil war and 2) that the reason for this war was because Assad is a Dictator.

This narrative has been proven false to you - numerous times - by numerous posters... Yet you persist.

Syria was a failed state.. Syrians protested... Assad opened fire on them. That was early 2011.. Hillary opposed military intervention because she believed Assad was a reformer.

We didn't get involved for another 2 years.(2014)

In May 2011, the United States ordered sanctions against the Syrian government for human rights violations, but Assad continued his assault on the protesters throughout Syria, which left thousands dead, according to the United Nations.

I already corrected you on your BS "Assad opened fire on protesters in March 2011" false narrative just the other day. A few days later and you are repeating the same nonsense.

Your own link even refuted your nonsense claim. Good grief

You didn't correct anything.. In May 2011, the United States ordered sanctions against the Syrian government for human rights violations, but Assad continued his assault on the protesters throughout Syria, which left thousands dead, according to the United Nations.

Can't even imagine how dictators like Assad and his clan in power can give up absolute power. This will be their doom. In other hand the country is in ruins and there is only a matter of time, when situation again will reach boiling point. And Russia and Iran cannot stand Asad power on their bayonets forever.

They are a crime family.. Always have been.

For Russia, There’s No Way Out of Syria (Op-ed)

Assad refuses to discuss any terms of a political settlement. He derailed the Sochi talks by insisting on making only symbolic amendments to the existing Syrian constitution. Damascus shot down...

Syria won’t accept a Russian plan for a new constitution that would dilute the powers of President Bashar al-Assad, in a setback for Kremlin efforts to negotiate an end to the seven-year civil war.

“I don’t see any possibilities for making the draft proposed by Russia as a basis for this constitutional process,” Vitaly Naumkin, a senior Russian government adviser, told a round-table hosted by the Valdai discussion group in Moscow on Monday. “We’re not trying to impose this on the Syrians -- this is unacceptable to them, both for the opposition and Damascus.”

Let them sort it out themselves. Regime change has a history of creating power vacuums wherein even worse forces flourish.

Leave them alone and let them deal with it.

Don't say that.. Even the Birthers could read the constitution. They just didn't want to.
