There is shutoff valve by the street tap. I bought an old house and my shutoff valve broke.

 

That is exactly how we do things in rational New England where we can get temperatures that can range from minus 10 to 101 F depending on season.

We also have a main breaker for electricity.
Of course Texans except those from the panhandle are not used to what happened plus their Texas only grid failed as did their governor and Lt governor .and utility chiefs.

Our outdoor shut off water valves are underground ( which we are not supposed to touch) but with a removable cover but so few people have the size sockets, or extensions or breaker bars or an iron pipe to use as a lever with your breaker bar. I do think that my biggest socket tatchet wrench would survive that job.

I still have my breaker bar and iron pipe from the days when I had to remove fouled up gunked up spark plugs back when we all used to be able to identify and get at parts in our high output V 8 cylinder 1960's American built cars without dropping the engine out and without a computer telling us not to touch the parts. Damn I loved that Mercury Cyclone.

 

The worst deal with Rafael Cruz is that he is one big assed hypocrite. Rafael lambasted Obama for playing pool, just playing pool or golfing not even during a crises and recently Rafael criticized the mayor of Austin which would have been ok if DB Rafael was clean himself.

Never heard of a house in Texas with a basement. Most of us have to turn off our water at the curb. You *can* do it with a pair of pliers, but a curb key (which almost no one owns) makes it more workable. And, no, that isn't how it works. If you cut off your water at the valve, and you turn on all your faucets . . . that doesn't empty all of your pipes. That isn't how physics works. If I turn off my valve and open my kitchen sink up all the way, there is still water in there . . . because gravity. It's a thing. Nothing is going to "pull" the water out of the pipes unless you actually form a seal and pump it out.

 

The mayor of Austin can do more than a senator. This has been said already. Go back and read the first page so we can stop repeating ourselves to you Democrats.

 

No other senator has even been asked to do this. This is just another attack full of hate from the left.

 

AOC and Beto have already done more than Cruz has.
