Ted Cruz Infuriates House GOP By Conceding Defeat On Obamacare Repeal

WASHINGTON -- House Republicans are fuming at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for conceding that the party's efforts to repeal Obamacare aren't going anywhere in the Senate -- and leaving the House to keep fighting over it anyway.

Cruz, a tea party favorite, is one of the most vocal proponents of defunding the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama's health care reform law. He's spent months championing the cause. But on Wednesday, as House Republican leaders unveiled their latest plan for sinking Obamacare -- tying a measure to defund the law to a must-pass resolution that keeps the government running -- Cruz thanked House Republicans for their fight, and said they're on their own.

"[Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid will no doubt try to strip the defund language from the continuing resolution, and right now he likely has the votes to do so," Cruz said in a statement. "At that point, House Republicans must stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people."

Aides to top Republicans in the House, where GOP leadership has already been struggling to keep the party together on the measure, were beside themselves. And once granted anonymity, they didn't mince their words.

"We haven't even taken up the bill and Ted Cruz is admitting defeat?" fumed one senior GOP aide. "Some people came here to govern and make things better for their constituents. Ted Cruz came here to throw bombs and fundraise off of attacks on fellow Republicans. He's a joke, plain and simple."

Another aide said Cruz's comment "exposes how [Senate conservatives] have deliberately misled their constituents and the grassroots for eight weeks. This isn't leadership, it's hypocrisy."

A request for comment from Cruz's office regarding the dust-up caused by the senator's remarks was not returned.

    *snip*

I've been saying since he was elected what a clown Cruz was, but Right-Wingers kept saying he was a brilliant Constitutional lawyer - a REAL one, not like Obama. [IMG]

So, how come he isn't aware that you need the Senate to also pass a defunding Bill, then have the President sign it?

Ted Cruz is voting the will of the American people where as Obama is trying to figure out how to attack Syria against the will of the people. I want Cruz to fight the good fight regardless of what you think is possible or not.

As the days tick by, the American people see with more clarity what a crock of crap Obamacare is. What do you think? People like the fact that Lawmakers have exempted themselves and their staff from participation in it? No of course not. They hate this. They hate that cronnies are given exemptions. They see the Unions request exemptions. Who is going to be saddled with it? The average guy. When people start seeing just how crappy it is when they are forced to do stuff under pain of fine, then the shizat will hit the fan. Cruz needs to get all the Republicans to openly protest this ridiculous law regardless of what Democrats or some moron establishment Republicans may think.

The will of the American people was determined by the last election. Everything else is just talk.

The will of the American people was expressed recently about Syria and how much we do not want any military involvement. If the American people all get pissed off about Obamacare when the fines kick in you will see the same sort of fireworks.

Gods honest truth. People see this exemption from being required to have it and they think what a crock.

You name call and then you ask such an obvious question of public knowledge. Surely you have seen the list of all the groups that have been granted exemption.

What fireworks? News media fireworks? What difference does that make if they don't have the votes?

Even Democrat Senators votes can change if the American people are as angry as they are about an attack on Syria.

I'm not aware of any attack on Syria. Please provide me a link where it says we have attacked Syria

We haven't. That is because when Obama announced his intentions to attack Syria, the American people together rose up in protest to the idea.

You mean big corporations who already supply health insurance to their employees?

Yeah - they don't need to enroll in a plan to help the uninsured get insurance. [IMG]

And Obama's Jedi Mind Trick worked on Assad and especially Putin.

When was the last time a U.S. president forced a Russian leader to do his bidding? :)

    I think it was Kennedy.

Great job, President Obama (praise be unto Him!)

Too funny. You think Putin is doing Obama's bidding! That is really a laugh riot. Putin totally and completely made Obama look like an idiot.

That's funny. You think this is actually about chemical weapons. Its not. Obama wants to enact regime change. Its a lie to the American people to get them behind a war effort to oust Assad and put in an Islamic fundamentalist government. Putin called the bluff. Obama had no choice but to play along. Meanwhile though Obama sent major armaments to the rebels. The rebels are hopping mad at Obama because he did not follow through on hitting the rebel called out cruise missile attacks. The rebels thought they were going to be in Damascus by now with the help of the American army.

Which part do you not believe? The arming of the rebels? The rebels calling out sites for the Navy to hit with cruise missiles?

The part about President Obama (praise be unto Him!) wanting to install an Islamist government.

The way Bush went after al Qaeda, that charge could have been made against him, but not Obama.

After Obama's fiascos in Egypt and Lybia, to want to go and do it again in Syria is either a purposeful plan to put an Islamic fundamentalist government in charge in Syria, or it is stupidity.
