After people banging on about how bad the Indonesian legal system is, with several Australians jailed for drugs charges. I would have thought that this teen would get more than a few mention on other threads. Is it, that this decision http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/wo...home-on-saturday/story-e6frf7lf-1226211335525 Would this be because it does not fit the claims of many, that others are so harshly treated? This boy really got off easily, so all stay silent?
Got off easy? You must be joking. It should be an on-the-spot fine, nothing more. We're talking about pot here, not heroin. LOL
OK, in Indonesian "law", maybe he got off easy. However, that's a good thing. He's an idiot, but I'm happy for him. Maybe the Indonesians are progressing a bit. Let's hope so. I can tell you, I would never step foot in their backward hellhole of a country.
You may think that Indonesian drug laws are backward but that doesnt necassarily make it so, you might to take note that western Australia has recently increased the penalties for possession of small amounts of marijuana under 30 grams which may now include 5 years in jail. Morally there is also no argument to be made that Australians or Westerners are somehow morally superior to Indonesians, we could take a few lessons from them and other southeast asian countries.
He says he is sorry but I bet the second he is home, he goes back to his old, pot smoking ways and his parents accept a few hundred grand from A Current Affair for a tell all interview.
Many wouldnt agree with you, in fact a good argument can be made that any country such as Australia which releases rapists and murderers to commit their crimes over and over again is backward.
Your opinion only. If you are not a criminal then you are safer to walk the streets in Indonesia than you are here, I dont see how that is backward.
Yes - I agree. Just as a nation that follows "allies" into illegal wars and allows their troops to die needlessly in unwinable wars is also backward. So - we are all a bit backward. That being said - Indonesia is a great country. I'd love to get a chance to go back again one day and hit central Sumatra for a big feed of rendang. mmmmmm
Nope. Using murder as a solution to problems is simplistic. Simplistic and cowardly. Overall, a massive failure of society.
I couldn't ever go there. Not after what happened to that young lad on Schoolies. Poor little bugger.
Its western society which is failing, we only need to look around at the all prevalent sense of self entitlement in this country and the majority who believe that there is zero consequences for their actions, we have lost the plot completely. Not only should we bring back hanging but we should also be following their lead in caning criminals publically, great deterrent to crime. You do not not see drunken louts wandering the streets looking for trouble anywhere in south east asia unless they are aussies on holiday. There is no teeth gnashing and wailing when criminals get punished for their actions over there, it is expected.
Those who advocate corporal and capital punishment are often just as disturbed as the criminals they seek to harm (sometimes more so). Capital (and/or corporal) punishment has no place in a civilised society. Some of us have evolved.
1. Got a link to prove that? or is it... 2. just your opinion. 3. Some deserve to have a halt put on their evolution.
What is less civilised - delivering corporal punishment or taking time out of the limited life span we have on this earth?
The boy is back, and when he returned home, the news crews were reporting hearing 's(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing' from behind the gate. Wouldn't surprise me. The kid isn't sorry for what he did. I expect him to be getting high within the week.
Perhaps, its often a fine line but that is not the point. My firm beleif which may surprise you is that uncivilised behaviour has no place in a civilised society. Amazingly enough I also beleive that your right as a law abiding citizen to go about your business peacefully trumps any criminals right to rob, maim, kill or otherwise pillage. And if it takes corporal punishment to maintain your rights to a peaceful existence then Im all for it. Bottom line, whatever we are doing now isnt working and whatever they are doing in Indonesia is working. If you have a better method then lets hear it. Into what?
Much less than in Australia, you wont find drunken thugs walking the streets looking for trouble over there as you do here. Whether you agree with capital and corporal punishment or not the fact is that it is a huge deterrent to crime.
That is true. I have wandered around drunk in many streets in Indonesia (that's just me) - and people are always very helpful to me. Do that in many streets in Australia (as I have) and you end up in a fight. It is much more pleasant to get on the (*)(*)(*)(*) in Indonesia. There are fewer Australian bogans around. I don't know if this really relates to the earlier post. But I get drunk a lot.
