Gary Johnson will be on the ballot so we do have an alternative to vote for. I will be voting based upon principle and not based upon simply picking one of two candidates both of which represent the problems in America today and will only make matters worse regardless of which might be elected. It's a lose-lose situation for those that pick between Romney and Obama. What part of that do they fail to understand. There is no "winning" if either Romney or Obama is elected in November.

The "state" is an entity which has a monopoly on power. Private interests controlling law enforcement implies competition of power, which is the opposite of a monopoly on power. Which means private interests controlling law enforcement is not the equivalent of a state.

You have yet to make a solid case proving that the state is required to implement these certain "functions" you are referring to.

Sure there is. Individuals are not required to participate under any one particular system if they don't want to. They have the freedom to choose to pay for these services or not. Under the state, if you refuse to pay, you will either be kidnapped or violently murdered if you refuse to pay for its services.

However the private entities decide to do it.

What do you mean if the "community" votes? A "community" can't vote, only individuals can vote.
Please clarify this statement, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here.

The massive flaw with this statement is that Collectivism and Libertarianism are not mutually exclusive. And when did I ever say that I would like to see anarcho-capitalism? I'm just playing the devil's advocate.

While this has been an entertaining discussion it has finally slipped past the 500 post limit so it needs to be closed. If members choose to continue the discussion then a Part II thread can be created. If any of you choose to do that then please check to see that someone else hasn't already done so to avoid duplicate thread creation.
