A renowned British newspaper The Guardian has created a database called “The Counted: People killed by police in the US“. IMHO they've done a pretty good job. A user friendly database. Is the body count accurate? Or under -reported? What do you think?

Guardian Creates Database of Citizens Killed by US State Forces

How amusing... people fear isis but their police killed or harmed much more americans than isis does. The power of the media over people is far too great.

The Guardian is a classy broadsheet. Very good idea for a website. They will need someone to maintain it though and will probably be a full time job with all of the research needed to keep it updated. Brilliant idea, im going to bookmark it

So true, of course our police are not burning people alive or throwing homosexuals off buildings. But hey just the same right? ISIS = US police = equivalent Wait a minute I think there is something wrong with that logic. You all think about it and get back to us.

This thread demonstrates the utter stupidity of America-hating third-world idiots and ultra-liberal radicals amazingly well .... Here is the first few people from the Guardian OP list, here is the scum that these morons shed crocodile tears over:

Zane allegedly fired at and wounded a sheriff's deputy during a routine traffic stop. The deputy fired back, injuring the female 16-year-old driver, Morgan McNeil, and killing Zane. According to investigators, Morgan and Zane had been dating and allegedly made a plan to drive to Ohio and take their own lives.

Police say they witnessed Garcia assaulting a woman inside a truck and that when they approached, he drove off and led them on a high-speed chase. Officers were able to stop his vehicle briefly before police say he started to accelerate and drive toward them. The alleged assault victim was later identified as Garcia's girlfriend.

Boulware fired shots at the Dallas police headquarters from an armored vehicle before ramming a police vehicle and leading officers on a chase. Police attempted to negotiate with Boulware, and when those talks broke off he was shot by a Swat sniper. Explosive devices were found in Boulware's vehicle and at police headquarters. Both were disarmed.

Manyoun advanced at an officer with a flagpole and did not obey commands to drop it, according to police. He swung the pole in a "sledgehammer-like motion", prompting an officer to open fire, police said. Police had been dispatched to respond to an alleged assault.

Flores shot and wounded his father, according to authorities. When deputies arrived to respond to the disturbance he also fired at them, injuring one before deputies returned fire and killed him.

Oh, and the Guardian, true to its image of a dishonest partisan uber-leftist tabloid decided to include cases like this in "killed by police" category which is nothing short of cheating and lying

Blakely was shot and killed by her husband, Matthew, an off-duty Aiken County sheriff's deputy. Matthew Blakely was seen by officers running from the residence with blood on his hands. Candace Blakley's body was found in their bathroom with a single shot to the head. The off-duty deputy was arrested shortly after and charged with involuntary manslaughter.

well that 12 year old kid with the toy gun certainly should have been shot. He would have grown up to be a drug dealing thug, even if he was a special ed student.

The cops have a habit of killing unarmed people, mentally ill people, people who have a gun in their hand when their doors get busted down by the narcs, and turn out to be just innocent people defending their homes from what they thought was a robber.

Then I recall that teenage girl, leaving a party in the country, and being drunk she brushed against the cop's leg with her car, and he shot her dead. This shoot first ask questions later used to be what cops did not do. But today, most of them are conservatives, and just do not respect anyone lives but their own. They have watched too many action films from Hollywood, I reckon. And real men shoot first, ask questions later, for that makes for a real man.

The Guardian is hardly a "renowned" paper. Their liberal bias makes the Huffington Post look like a collection of Tea Party members. I just love how they criticize police in our country, for doing their jobs. Don't they have their own problems to worry about across the pond?

But all that aside, how many of these shootings were justified? How many were because the suspect tried to kill the cop or another person, and the cop shot them? That's kind of important to know, don't you think?
And please don't tell me you are one of those people who feels compassion for the worst among us when they get what they deserve and use that age old cop out, "sure he raped and killed 34 people, but he's still a human!". Who cares?

Nadi Soofi and Simpson came to Garland prepared to attack the 'Muhammad Art Exhibit' hosted by the American Freedom Defense Initiative. The two got out of a vehicle with assault rifles and began firing at a police car, striking an officer. Officers, including Swat personnel, returned fire, killing both.

Nope. this one is better. Next time you call the police to help you, you will have to worry whether they're going to shoot a member of your own family or not. Make sure you tell them in advance not to kill anyone.

“We called for help and they killed our son”: Out-of-control police overreach meets extreme secrecy

Anyway, just for the record. When I posted the database, the number was 503. Today is already 514. God Bless America!

This is off-topic, but I have noticed non-profit organizations in the U.K. are often far more concerned about social problems than people in the U.S.
Even if those social problems are taking place in the U.S. It's almost like everyone in the U.S. just takes it for granted and doesn't care.

We can reduce the number of people killed by police to near zero if we stripped everyone of their liberty like other countries... Kind of like we can get traffic accident deaths (btw, a much more serious problem confronting civilized societies) to near zero if we strictly enforced a 5 MPH speed limit.

What is the debate here again? Oh, USA sucks as usual...

A number of issues you could discuss if you wanted to.

Has America become a corporate police state? It appears that neither the U.S army nor the U.S police force serve ordinary Americans any longer. Their only function is to be to protect the U.S elites and the rule of corporations they established. Is the U.S turning into a fascist state?

Blacks, Hispanics, mentally ill etc…etc… are all easily disposable. They used to do that in Germany in 1930’s.

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini.

Well I went to the link, it looks like 760,000 law enforcement officers in America have killed 514 1/2 individuals. I bet most were thugs or people who went stupid.

Please, for every bad shooting there are many multiples that are not. Besides on a % basis, the biggest risk for an LEO shooting is a Black male. Like most libs you make stuff up. You need to document the teenage girl story. Then there is the fact that LEO shooting have been decreasing. But none of that matters to the liberal agenda. No wonder liberalism is a mental disorder.

Have the police killed more PEOPLE than ISIS or just more Americans? Because, you know, that matters.

Even better would be an article on the number of killings by repeat violent felons, who have been let back out into society after they should have been permantly removed.

The numbers from that study would eclipse the numbers from the Guardian article.

Pearl of Wisdom: Punish the felon.

But ISIS has still killed more PEOPLE than American police have in a shorter time frame and in generally far more gruesome and barbaric ways. I don't recall any instances of American police surrounding thousands of people and trying to make them starve in the desert. I don't remember American police beheading anybody or blowing up innocent civilians with the explicit purpose of blowing up innocent civilians.

There is also no good side of ISIS. In America we focus on the bad cops, but also realize there are plenty of good ones. The same cannot be said for ISIS. There are no good ISIS members. There is no good that ISIS does There is no flipside to contrast the bad with. They are a terror group whose primary tool is killing and merciless slaughter and destruction.

What does that tell you Greataxe? The U.S society is dysfunctional. The U.S society is sick so to speak. I don’t have a problem with that. That’s your own internal problem. If you don’t treat sickness it spreads. Of course, you can always pretend that the problem does not exist and ignore it. The sickness will only get worse.
The UK is also a broken society. Few years behind the USA, but we’re getting there. The only category we will never catch up is the murder rate. Why? The British population has been successfully disarmed.
